The Only Café where we meet, and where Bertram has performed many times, is one of my neighbourhood haunts. It’s a surprise I’ve never run into her here, but everyone else in the place knows her and stops to say hello. My workday starts to feel like a cool party. Still, outside of Canada’s community music circles, no one’s hear...

Drawing from their individual troubled pasts, Crystal and Bill have come together to make those dreams a reality. Always known for his gut wrenching, finger bloodying guitar playing and deep, thoughtful lyrics, Bill Rhynes has been a long time...

If you've read this far you must be a true Halakan. When we left our heroes, they were hanging precariously off the edge of a shear cliff with no help of rescue in sight. Would they survive? Would Kingo remember the mountain climbing skills he learned as a child in Nepal? Would Fanch ever stop singing songs from the musical "The...

Normally, when I am writing the introductory article that accompanies all Spotlight Interviews, I gather tidbits of background information given to me by the interview subject in a series of preliminary questions I send them. Normally, I would write a kitschy little info piece to let you know where the subject is from and how th...

When Dan Sindel was in 4th grade someone stuck a trumpet in his hands and he has been making what he describes as a "joyful noise" ever since. This lifelong Los Angeles, California resident has made music the greatest part of his life. When he was in junior high school Dan learned to play the trombone and French horn while pla...

Mizxoncevd, the fabulously intense yet incredibly creative duo, has long been a fixture here at DMusic. The Spotlight caught up with one half of this inventive couple, Sinai, hater of sculpture, ficus killer and musical guru of the group. As he tells it, hailing from Chillicothe, Ohio, a "smashing Mayberryville 40 miles south of...

If you ask DM members who they listen to most regularly, one of the answers you are likely to hear is FraDonaghy. While always active here at DM, and always creating and sharing his beautiful music, he remains one of the most private DM members around. That makes him a perfect subject for February's Spotlight Interview!
