Congressional leaders promise action on tech issues
Posted by AdminCodeWarrior in on January 11, 2004 at 12:38 PM

Just a relevant snippet from the article below:
"But Rep. Steve Buyer, R-Ind., warned that fellow free-trade Republicans shouldn't make the mistake of thinking the jobs issue isn't real. "There's some realities out there that hurt Americans," he said. "There's a beginning of the erosion of the middle class in this country."

Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, said it's up to content creators to come up with business models that accommodate modern technology and attitudes. "I don't agree you're going to get teen-agers and young people to believe they're doing something immoral" in file swapping, he said. "The industry has to decide on a different model."

You're probably right about him not really giving a rats ass.

And by different model he probably means that the RIAA should send their RIAA cops to your house and actually beat you with a stick while they try to take your money out of your wallet and delete the files off of your computer.

Of course, the beatings will last a life time since they're so stone aged they probably won't notice that the monitor is off and the computer is off as well.

sounds like congress is starting to hear the crys of the public. I'll wait to see there's still Hatch, Feinstein and others trying to ram it down our throats

I suppose we'll just have to keep an eye on these Representatives to make sure there isn't in flux in their beliefs.

Oh my, Sen. John Sununu, R-N.H said that the RIAA's tactics are heavy handed. Let's elect him again!

Why don't we just tear down the gov't and start anew?

I'll do what I can about Feinstein out here in California, unfortunatly there is a large group of "other" sexuals in San Fransisco and Los Angeles that just love her and they'll vote for her till their asshole bleed...whoops they all ready are.

Anyway, unless Arnie comes up with the cure all for our budget problems that most people can accept, it looks like this will remain a democratic state with Feinstein and Boxer hanging around until they retire or die.

By the way I'm not against "other" sexuals, I just call 'em as I see 'em. (other means more than just homo in case you were wondering)

.. all we can do this election year is gather, register, vote.. so williamhbonney is correct.. politicians only care about reelection.. and we have a chance to show real power. But it will not happen unless people get offa the computer couch, register, vote, and get their friends to do the same. 2004 should be the beginning of the change. airrider.. hang tough. Nodding we can do it.. it is just hard. And, by the way, can we leave assholes in the bedroom?.. it really ain't nona my business.. which starts my next rant. See, folks, the kind of capitilism that the Riaa and their ilk pushes on us over sexualizes EVERYTHING to the point where we ourselves are compelled to refer to any other human being by their sexual nature first.. sad.. :( (Frown)

gdZieman hits the nail on the head. These issues aren't going away unless REAL revisions to the copyright laws are inacted. First and foremost ought to be the SHORTENING of the life span of ANY copyright. I believe 30 years for ANY copyright of any kind is MORE than sufficient. If you can't make money with a legal monopoly on your copyright for 30 years, you don't deserve the copyright in the first place.

The DMCA must be revoked completely. It is unconstitutional. None of our elected officials or candidates are addressing these issues at all, or taking these kind of stands. We must force these issues to be considered.

Don't believe the cries from those in the RIAA and owner's of copyrights how many jobs would be lost is this legislation were to be passed. To the contrary, I believe that passing legislation limiting all copyrights to 30 years would spark our economy further, not cost jobs.
