First of all, let me say this... hahahahahaha

Okay.

The only reason I'm posting this is so that maybe the rest of you can help me figure out what the hell Jane is talking about so I can write about it again.

The "single effect theory." Hmmm...

Any ideas?

Isn't that the RIAA's position on the labels losses? It was "piracy!"(copyright infringement), nothing else I tell you! Not the fact that are artists are becoming more and more facisimilie, not the fact that we are synthesizing artists voices, nor that the economy was in a slump, nor the fact that we cannot adapt, and it can't possibly mean that people are just sick of the music they're artists produce either. It's one single effect--copyright infringement.

Hmm, I think it is the single effect theory that you have a website and poor ol' Jane don't!

The "single effect theory" is a literary style which is credited to the author Edgar Allen Poe, particularly his short, horror stories. The theory is that a good short story should elicit a certain unique or single effect upon the reader.

What this has to do with this website is anybody's guess. Perhaps there is some literary critic by the name of G. Ziemann who is a big proponent of the single effect theory of short stories and this Jane Doe is venting her rage at it.

ok this makes more sense. I think Sukio was thinking of the Jane doe sueing RIAA and that was her response to them. I just now realized it was a response to the website. Perhaps she's talking about our "Biased approach" toward the RIAA and not presenting a balanced view of the issue. (her view not mine)

George, I wasn't saying it was yours. It was just the first "single effect" theory that came to mind, and that is the RIAA's and labels, not yours. Sorry for any confusion.

You might be right compmore, but their side isn't very balanced either. Other then the website I'm not really sure what the hell she's babbling about.

Maybe by "You suck" she actually means "I love you" and by "so does the single effect theory," she really means "George."

Hmm...makes me wonder where "Jane Doe" developed her theory that you create a partial vaccuum.

She apparently feels that you have posited a "single effect theory", which also creates a partial vaccuum, and this latter assertion, that a theory creates a partial vaccuum, creates a conundrum in physics which I think even resorting to quantum physics will not solve.

Thus, it seems Jane Doe has thinking processes which have gone down an abberant track and are as bizarre in their assertions as are her words.

A more plausble explanation is that Ms. Doe is engaging in the psychological act of "projection" , or ascribing thoughts and feelings which the speaker harbors within themselves, to others.

Translation, "I'm rubber and you're glue and whatever you say, bounces off me and sticks to you."

I believe Ms. Doe should :
a) Seek professional mental help
b) Seek an educational course in English, so that she can more properly articulate her thoughts
c) Get a life.

correction- for every instance of the spelling "vaccuum", please insert
"vacuum". Sorry for typos.

Well I must say there has never existed a great mind in history that was recognized as such by not adequately explaining their position and relating it to the lamen. How many books would plato have written about socrates if his response to his sentence was "thats cool"..... Jane Doe may be very intellegent and may well have a point. However, do to the simplicity of her statement it will be forever lost in the debth of unwritten history.
As far as only showing one point of view. This begs the question of "How could we show both sides to satisfy ms. doe?" It has been my experience that the majority of the news on this site has been direct qoutes from both sides. In fact, the RIAA have recieved much more direct qoutation than the opposition. Perhaps because they have a much bigger mouth, but this is outside of the control of this website. It is not our fault that almost every word out of the RIAA's mouth makes them sound like idiots. It is this websites fault that the RIAA is willing to lie about it's market position. It is not this website's fault that the RIAA is willing to mislead people into thinking they represent the consumers only to offer the rebutal that they never claimed to represent artists. (Not telling the truth is just as good as lying. I thought we established this in grade school when our parents asked what we were doing and we responded with an adversion or delusion to avoid the issue.)

I must say ms. doe you have commited quite the fallacy. Your hipicritical approach to making a statement of your one is very humerus. I am no great study of poetry but assuming the above definition of the single effect theory is correct you have certainly done so yourself. If I were to read your statement in full believe (which is always unwise and the main page of this site suggest against it, even in reference to the material within this site) you would have given me only one affect. Good luck to you in your journies through life. I hope you find a better way of expressing yourself because you will not get far on statements like that.
