RIAA and BOYCOTT Square Off at Goucher
Posted by AdminCodeWarrior in on December 3, 2003 at 7:51 AM

Our own leflaw, Larry E. Feldman, of LefLaw.com, a top litigant of class action suits, particularly against the music conglomerates, was personally invited by Goucher University to be be a debater, due to his position as a key supporter of musical freedom. Mitch Glazer, the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs from for the Recording Industry Association of America, will be representing the RIAA.

Another noted and very capable representative from our site is George D. Ziemann, who has been an advocate of the rights of musicians, a writer, and an independent music producer. George's work in compiling statistics about the truth about sales of music CDs of the major labels, have been used as source material for Wired Magazine, national newspapers, and by many websites who have published articles about the impact of file sharing on record sales. George's website is www.azoz.com .

There will have a panel discussion with a slew of musical freedom advocates looking to return the music industry to the artists and fans.

Due to the way in which the RIAA has targeted college students and colleges for subpoenas, it is not expected to be an audience which will be particularly receptive to the views and rhetoric of Mr. Glazer and the RIAA.

In a quote from leflaw,
"There is a monolith to be dissected," says Larry, "record companies overcharge for the celebrities they create, rather then the musicians that deserve the
attention." Larry, boycott-riaa.com, and all others in the musical freedom
movement recognize that there is a change underfoot; gouging for music is on
the outgo while people's choice is strengthening its flow."

DMusic.com will also be represented by some of the great musicians associated with the site, and they will be performing for the students.

There may be videotaping of the debate, but we will be reporting more on this later.

Mr. Feldman, please be nice to Mr. Glazer. After all, you are entering a battle of wits & intellect with an unarmed opponent.

But seriously, any chance of someone getting a tape recorder in there so we can have a listen to the debate ?

0hz: No tape recorders because I'm sure the event will be copyrighted by Mitch Glazer before it takes place. You're best bet is to wait for the $25 CD to come out.

There is a possibility that we will get the event videotaped. Not sure at this point, but I will advise, or leflaw will advise when we have this nailed down.

I finally read this article--it's very good. I thought posting the link to it again would be useful.

http://www.clevescene.com/issues/2003-11-19/feature.html/1/index.html

I assume the issues raised in this article will be the same ones raised in tonight's debate -- I only wish the RIAA people would actually respond to these points.

It is so much propaganda it's unbelieveable they are just a sick bunch, sure the mainstream could possibly going in the grain of the RIAA because people only read whats put in the papers not both sides of the story about how they go about their business practice it's insane.
By the way good luck you guys kick some ass :) (Smile)

Yes, let's get either a tape or a transcript. Good luck to Larry and George-you guys rock. Even if Mitch isn't there, or if he copyrights it, there are ways of getting around it..... ;) (Wink)
