I'm sure riaa can buy thier way out of this one too. It's called the "Feed the needy law makers and judges" program.

I fear the decision on this very important case. If the RIAA wins, we all LOOSE!
Keep your fingers crossed.

A way to describe the RIAA's approach is "shopping the case around." This is similar in description (if not specifics) to the ACLU's "shopping around" cases such as the Pledge of Allegiance or the California recall to judges who would rule as they wanted. Any which way you look at it, the RIAA's strategy is right out of a corrupt banana republic.

I have SBC, and they lowered the proce for new subscribers to $24.95 in my area. During the time from price reductiuon to the end of my term SBC announced they would fight the riaA.

So I called to re-up my subscription and told them "...if you guys keep fighting the riaA you can still charge me the $39.99/mo fee." The operator for SBC laughed a good while and said "thanks, we apreciate your support, but you will get the reduced price."

I said thanks and hung up with a huge grin on my face!

BTW, contrary to what you may have heard, in my area SBC has given flawless service and upload/download speeds.

I have phone service with SBC, and I stuck a note in my payment envelope saying that this was the first time I was actually happy and proud to pay my bill, because I hoped at least a penny of it would to to pursuing the case against the RIAA.

SBC is very smart, because if they win, everyone who wants any sort of privacy will flock to the isp.

It's called, what heppens when the RIAA doesn't have the money to feed the lawmakers and judges? That time is coming soon. SBC is really really smart, if they are willing to protect users, then more users from bad ISPs (AOL, Qwest) will move to SBC because they stand up for their courtomers (unlike the RIAA, AOL AND, Qwest).

If SBC wins, I would think that at least part of the DMCA would have to be declared unconstitutional.

The SBC and The RIAA are playing a cheese game. And if the SBC plays the right hand and drag the RIAA through all the loop holes they want to put 12 year old girls through. Who know's maybe next time this year RIAA would just become another big corp going down, because all of the money they had saved up went into Senator Blah Blah's pocket so that his kid little Suzzie can go to college a download music using SBC service.

Awesome...

I have SBC here in Rockford, IL. It's been flawless, their customer service is top notch, and my DSL is superb, given the fact that I'm beyond the limit of the CO, and I'm still getting 45kb per second for only $30 a month. I only had one problem where the modem they sent me was sent with the wrong AC adapter. Other than that, I'm glad I have SBC. And, contrary to what everyone else may think, remember, it's not longer Ameritech. SBC bought them out. So now it's just SBC... the company that actually gives a crap about their customres. :P (Razz)

Anyway, I was even more enthusiastic to be a part of this company when I heard like two months ago that they were giving the finger to the RIAA and attempting to battle them in court. Now that they're going to trial, I think I'll just give them a call and just tell them that I love being their customer.

Even though Verizon lost, I still give them mad props for giving the RIAA the finger and trying to kick them in the arse.
