I remember that line, lol. It runs on the bottom of the screen of the news like CNN on Simpsons. That's great. But I though Republicans are the ones who are supposed to eat babies.
Then again, I have no idea how politics works. They don't teach it high school, so I'm in the dark.

high schools have gone to hell. Woodhead - go take a look at your local highschool... at ours at least we have iron bars and gates with armed guards... We've never had a gunfight at the school they just want to keep it 'safe'. Most adults would be amazed how much our highschools suck now... dunno if they have for a while (I've never gone to highschool, I homeschooled) but whenever I went and visited a friend at school it was always shocking to me.

...also schools are teaching anti-"Piracy" RIAA propoganda in schools now... doesn't say much for the integrity of the principals and superintendants does it? Disgusting... It is just awful. When a bank gets robbed the bankers don't go to the local schools and tell people not to rob banks. I know that downloading MP3s are totally different than robbing a bank... but the bank loses EVERYTHING. the recording industry are just a bunch of whining little bastards.

The point on Highschools not teaching Politics is entirely accurate. There is an American Goverment class required by most highschools, but the textbooks are so watered down and the classes so charged with Politically Correct agendas (because school districts have to protect themselves from lawsuits) that while the class exists technically, it actually doesn't really teach anything. As for Fox News, (I'm suprised Bill O'Reilly didn't feature this in his Most Ridiculous Item of the day spot, it's really quite funny) they have no worse track record than any other Cable news channel and a significantly better record than all broadcast news channels when it comes to providing accurate information, and they are more upfront about their conservative bias than either MSNBC or CNN or CBS or ABC are about their liberal bias. Bottom line if you want to know what going on you have to get your news froma wide variety of sources, and personally I'd advise a preference for printed sources over broadcast sources.

Nope!
They teach you theres a Prez, a House, and a big ol Court. There is no instruction to what you do as a citizen in the whole process. They do touch on why people don't vote, though.

Well, crap! What should I do?! I mean if someone make me a list of who to vote for next year toward the music war, I'll do it. But that's not normal. Everyone should know these things. Is there a class in college?

amen steve. printed is much better. I'm not concerned with liberal or conservitive bias. when I see a newscaster reading a news story and injects their own personal opinions in the story they are no longer journalists, they are comentators. I want to see pure facts and let me decide. that's what PROFESSIONAL journalists do. Walter Cronkite, Bernard Shaw, Judy Woodruff etc. and many more. all the cable news networks do the sensationalist thing but fox is by far the worst in my definition of professional journalism. Case in point, Geraldo Rivera, a great Jerry Springer clone but no where near a journalist. CLUNK!! (me jumping off my soapbox) Print media is where the facts are

There are classes in college, infact Political Science is a Major unto itself (I was a PoliSci major). That being said as much as I do not want to distract from the goal of getting reasonable copyright reform and creating a credible counter PAC to the RIAA, you probably should vote based on a few more issues than just "the music war". Keep in mind that very few congress people have any degree of specialized knowledge in most of the issues they vote on, it is key to identify the key advisors in their staff (who will tend to be more specialized) and talk to them. Equally important as voting for congress are state and local elections for judges who may be called on to hear these cases (though copyright is a federal case so probably will be heard by judges appointed for life several presidents and senate ago).

Just wait until college to take a Gov't class. There they are taught by hippie marxists teaching about "The Worker's Revolution"; even though, they've never worked a real day in their life.

For ConsumerAbyss: The trend you are commenting on is really not very old in this country. There are two oieces of policy that are the foundation, the New Deal and the Great Society Program. These were the real beginings of massive, goverment run wealth redistribution and the notion of "entitlement". A lesser known piece of the puzzle was the so called "progressive" movement that peaked just before WWI. This stripped the Political Parties of the power to control their candidates, which has in large part led to the mercenary legislators we now have, and greatly empowered special interest groups with good fundraising ability.
For napster boy: you are right on target for the most part. Sloganized: "those that can do, do, those that can't do, teach"
For Compmore: Print media is not without bias. The nature of print allows you more time to analyze what is being said, and determine if you agree, disagree, partially agree etc. I get the impression you prefer to get primary sources and draw your own conclusion, which if you have the time to do it is almost always the best course of action.

Steve I agree. it's not without bias but you don't have a comentator snickering, making snyde remarks or shouting down the people they're trying to interview to get in the way of the information. and you're right, print is exactly how I like to get my news. good observation.

This is a sad thing, how does Washington expect these ppl to come out of at least highschool with some basic knowledge of our government? how do they know who to even vote for, it is a sad sad state, when Basic government classes are watered down.

If they want to teach politics in school how they really are in the real world then they should also teach kids how to lie and steal without "breaking the law". The government is just like the mafia except they have the power to write and twist laws in their favor, and big business isn't far behind. Wal-Mart is the company with the biggest revenues according the the guiness book of world records and yet they hire illegal aliens for 5 bucks a day and pay American workers a measily 6 bucks an hour and expect them to pay for their living expenses.. Absolutely appauling....
