They only want five panelists and they've already got 4. Fred Von Lohman probably has the most credibility.

JANIS IAN!!!
This woman is intelligent, articulate and has been there/done that in the industry ( from an artist's perspective).
If not Janis then George Z or Fred.

John Perry Barlow came across very well on the Tech TV program. And he has music credibility with his Grateful Dead connection.

IMHO, it's a matter of logistics. If leflaw had the time to go, then I vote for leflaw.
If not leflaw, Larry Lessig. My reasoning? Once it is all said an done, this whole mess is gonna come down to the law, and who can argue legality with common sense. That's why I vote for leflaw. He ROCKS!
George Z is great, and knows a lot of law, but he probably doesn't know all the legal nuances (maybe he does, I don't know). Lessig is great too, but he's been relatively unavailable after becoming a relatively new dad I hear.
But, it's logistics. Who has the time and opportunity to go, and who wants to take the challenge on , on our behalf?
Props to everyone mentioned as a possible representative. Fred Lohmann is good too, didn't mean to slight by omission.

Fred from EFF would be my choice.
I like the eff stance because they can bring to the table all the views of George, Janis Ian and Bill, but also have an aggressive campaign to figure out a way to get p2p to pay artists, something that I've personally heard the RIAA stumble on on NPR. Every time Fred brought it up, Cary Sherman had some lame excuse why they wouldn't do it and kept trying to spin it back to the lawsuits being their best tack.
For the issue to advance beyond polarizing views it needs to include discussion on how p2p can compensate artists, if we keep the RIAA backed in that corner, the more they protest it, the weaker their position will be.
Have a super day!

I agree with JANIS IAN!!! There's a TRUE artist perspective that would blow the RIAA right out of the water, if you ask me.
Her experience on her OWN website with MP3 file sharing and downloading is invaluable. As is her insight on the music industry.

well this is as simple as it is complacated i say chuck D but no one knows chuck and how to get a hold of him he would be are best bet but what the complated thing is thay don't want them thay want bill leflaw or one of are posts and the EFF dose not post for us nor are thay one of are founding fathers thay want one of us boycotters like CODE or Z-man
i bleave this will not be about file sharing it will start that way and move into how horrable the riaa truely is so are best bet is to send some one who knows the riaa from front to back like Z-man or chuck D or leflaw i would stay away from bill at the time thoe becose this will be a collage students want to hear from a younger person :0P lol J/K well any way i sed my 2 cents

See, now I like ChuckD and Janis Ian, but from what I've heard ChuckD say, I haven't been too impressed, he's got the sentiment, but he doesn't seem to have any solutions to the problem, same for Janis, who I think has a great perspective, but isn't in a postition to lobby like Fred from EFF is.
Not a clue about Robute.

Leflaw, ask Freundlich to have Chuck D contact you, he represents Chuck.. Also in return you can join the Law Panel Freundlich is moderating at the Bev Hills Bar Assoc Nov. 5--Ron G is on it too.
Otherwise---you can do the panel youre own bad self, Leflaw. The request is for someone from Boycott---I don't see how that is wide enough to include Jans Ian or even Fred. As far as avaiability in the DC area, shouldn't be a problem for Fred he's always traveling in town. Fred & Glazier go waaaa-----ayyyyy back to the days when Fred was a ponytail Hill intern rat and Glazier worked for Coble or Hollins (forget which)--.
Sometimes I think people get bored with the same old back n'forth cos these guys all know each other and it becomes a vaudeville act (anticipating what is coming out the other guy's mouth)--sorta like you (leflaw) and Racoff!!
what say you get Phil Corwin in DC to sub? Be forewarned, these RIAA guys always cancel and don't show up.

My 2 cents:
All great names & highly qualified. One more to consider: Eben Moglen, professor of law & legal history, Columbia University. He just wrote a wonderful article in the Oct 27th issue of 'The Nation' magazine, and has been associated with EFF for some time. He's also general counsel for the Free Software Foundation. See his website: http://moglen.law.columbia.edu

If a fighter doesn't have the cajones nor the proper weapons for a fight, they usually back out. That's why the RIAA is so elusive when it comes up to one on one confrontation as in Music Wars. They know they are mentally, emotionally, physically (just look at Sherman) and morally bankrupt.
Running on empty is not just a song,
it's their brains!
