'Stop RIAA Lawsuits' launch date
Posted by AdvancedJon Newton in on October 19, 2003 at 2:51 PM

The RIAA has launched Round Two in its intimidation campaign by sending letters to 204 people threatening legal action if they don't settle out of court.

However, RIAA and its masters, the Big Five record labels, are going to feel a lot of pain this time.

The The Stop RIAA Lawsuits Coalition boycott is slated to go from October 20-27 and the web page should be up and running by tonight. The guys at DownhillBattle are organizing flyers for people to distribute in front of Walmarts, big chain record stores - you name it.

If you're feeling inspired, send flyer ideas or .pdfs to contact(at)downhillbattle(dot)org.

"For people that care about filesharing and the future of music, it's not about whether you stop buying major label music, it's about how many people you can convince to stop," says DownhillBattle's Nicholas Reville.

"Tell your kids, your parents, your friends, and your enemies that everytime they buy a major label CD, they're funding lawsuits against families and children."

WHY ISN'T YOUR SITE ON THE WEB PAGE BOYCOTT LIST ????

DownhillBattle's Peer-to-Peer Defense Fund is also doing well with $1,822.49 raised so far.

Anyone who thinks the RIAA lawsuits are callous and unwarranted can donate to support the people who are being sued. Rather than collecting donations centrally like a traditional defense fund, ther DownhillBattle system lets you give money directly to someone who's being sued.

Watch this space.

I've almost finished compiling a list of college radio station e-mail addresses. I think they would be interested in this because of the problems they have had with DMCA royalty issues for their webcasts.

I just wrote CNN and USA today to tell them of the one week boycott since they both had the RIAA lawsuit articles on the front of their technology section. we'll see if they pick up on it.

Cool Carla, College radio is the way to go. awsome .

I hope that fund actually goes to FIGHT those lawsuits, instead of actually settling against them. Don't give them a goddamn inch.

I used this site (http://www.radio-locator.com/) to find college radio stations. However, the site limits the number of lookups per day. I have gone through about 320 out of 424 search results, yielding a list of 208 station e-mail contacts.

It makes more sense if StopTheRIAALawsuits.com e-mails the schools directly. I am going to send the list to them.

Leflaw, should I copy and paste the list in the contact form on Boycott-RIAA? Is there another address I should use?.

I think that a one week boycott is not near enough, the RIAA said that this is going to transform into a rolling pattern of 50 or so a week, the boycott should stop when they stop.

the boycott has been going on, and will go on, curtnerc.....
this is a very broad based week thing, mostly to send a message.
Many will participate that otherwise would not.
In this one week, we do more damage, than 3 years of boycott-riaa has done.
Tho, in essence, I do agree with you, maybe some will stay on board for as long as it takes...
the boycott is a big thing, and a good thing. support it. sign the EFF petition.

To curtnerc I second you on that I've been boycotting the RIAA since the original napster was taken down,it's just since the RIAA has tried to sue the people who keep them in business is now gettin the message of how they really are it's now picking up steam.
I think it should go long enough that the media has no choice but to report whats going on or they'll miss a great story.

I've been trying to get my site listed on the boycott, but the email is bouncing..something about an improper DNS setup....

Attention: DNS information out of date (updated)
Several days ago (Tuesday the 30th), SpamCop made some DNS changes. You are still using the old informaton. If you have not restarted your browser recently, please do so. Some problems with SpamCop DNS servers are contributing to this problem. We are working to fix these issues and hope for a resolution soon.

So if someone there would be so kind to contact me... boycott-riaa@eatnails.com

During this week you also need to go into the stores and ask to see the manager, then politely tell him or her that you won't be buying any cd's there for awhile, due to the riaa action. I did this about a week ago and the store manager didn't even know anything about a boycott. He indicated his only reasoning for slow sales was due to downloading. I managed to open his eyes a little anyway.

PS: The stores need to know why their sales are down and not just by listening to the riaa crap.

You know that dog that always talks about taking a bite out of crime? This week is that same dog biting RIAA's fat stupid arse!
