RIAA lawsuit boycott
Posted by AdvancedJon Newton in on October 16, 2003 at 5:49 PM

Did we say 96? Yep. But that was this morning. At about 2:45 pm (Pacific), 112 sites had signed up for the Boycott RIAA Music action plan.

The RIAA is using its subpoena campaign to terrorize people into buying their owners' products but a coalition of web pages owners will show the labels their lawsuits will hurt them where they feel pain the most - in their wallets.

They've created http://www.stopRIAAlawsuits.com/ calling for a one week boycott of RIAA music coinciding with the next round of lawsuits against music fans.

WHY ISN'T YOUR SITE LISTED??????

I would really like to see a reputable name like EFF up there.

I know they are about more than music, but they've adopted the RIAA lawsuits as one of their primary causes.

Otherwise - awesome.

It's just the start of a slow chain reaction taking place. Each site has the potential to pull in more sites, indivdual readers with small web sites that can take part.

Like the growth in readership of this site, this will grow exponentially.

I've gone to quite a few of these sites and like what I see. helps open up doors for them as well. However I did notice that many of the sites on the list had nothing at all about the RIAA boycott on their front page wish I could think of them now, perhaps they haven't gotten around to adding it yet. anyways, great plublicity. can't wait till it hits

My humble one-page site has links to boycott-riaa.com, stopthe RIAAlawsuits.com, eff.org, the enemy (you bastards!), DMusichost.com, and, of course Lone Star Junction (ok, ok, it's off-topic, but what else could I link the Texas flag to?). Over 250 visitors so far, so I'm reaching someone!

hey is there any chance that we can get a counter on the boycott-riaa frontpage? just like a #, with a link with a list of sites. It might be more efficient than daily news-postings. Maybe not just an idea :) (Smile)

More RIAA Lawsuits
The recording industry has started the second round of its campaign against American music fans by sending letters threatening them with lawsuits and offering to discuss settlement. "The record companies still aren't listening to their fans; instead of continuing their litigation crusade, the labels should give their customers the option to pay a reasonable fee to continue file-sharing," said EFF Staff
Attorney Wendy Seltzer.

I admit I'm not really familiar with some of the names up there (and my notebook's acting up, so I'm not going to check ATM,) but what it could -really- benefit from, in addition to names like the EFF, etc. is the larger independants (Metropolis, etc.)

(Geesh, can I make a single post w/o mentioning Metropolis? O.o)

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW???

There will be no new round of lawsuits!!!

It has started!!!

They are sending letters saying:

"we caught you... pony up your first born and $4,000 or we sue.."

Most will fall over and just pay...

This whole process can now be automated with a mail merge program!!!
