Online Beatles? Not, says Apple Corps
Posted by AdvancedJon Newton in on October 14, 2003 at 11:57 AM

There are no plans to put the extensive back catalogue of the Beatles on the Net, says BBC News Online here.

Hundreds of thousands of songs can now be bought online from legitimate, paid-for services, such as iTunes, but The Beatles are a glaring omission, says the story.

[One wonders if they've looked on K ++ or any of the other p2p apps lately - Ed]

An EMI told the Beeb the decision was taken by Apple Corps, owned by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the late George Harrison's estate and, "the lack of Beatles' music on paid-for sites will be a blow to the music industry which is trying to promote its own legitimate services and recover from falling CD sales.

Apple Corps spokesman Geoff Baker was quoted as saying 'neither' of the remaining Beatles have expressed any interest in online music, "major artists have now committed their songs to online music sites".

Really?

Paul and Ringo may not want it but it's there. I know people who have tons of good quality Beattle songs from the internet. but it's right that the omission helps the lack of cedibility for online paying services

I've only got 54 Beatles' tunes, but the list is still growing. They'd be fools not to add the Beatles.

i think what thair trying to say is that the beatles desided thay do not want thair songs on itunes and good for them it's ripping off the consumer and the artests in the friest place and the beatles don't want thair fans to have to pay for some thing that thay wear doing for the love of music thay know thay can get thair songs from kazaa or other places for free and i would say thay are happy with that free love of the 60s = free music of the 00s so i hope this will be lesson

Or it could be that the Beatles are doing exactly what the riaa has been doing, holding out until the money is good........ For once the artist will be the stickup man and the riaa doing the paying out.

Quote from the BBC article

"Mr Baker said Apple Corps was unaware of any particular demand for the band's music to go online and was unconcerned by the numbers of Beatles' tracks being downloaded by so-called pirates for free. "

Since the Apple Corps spokesperson said they were unconcerned, I'm going download Beatles 'till I drop. I was waiting for them to be available legally, but since that isn't going to happen and they aren't worried about me downloading, WOO HOO!

Lets all get our Beatles collections completed before Sir Paul and Ringo figure out they have hired complete idiots to run their record label and handle their business affairs.

I've purchased the entire Beatle CD collection of regular studio tracks YEARS before all this Napster and Lawsuit mess.

I have used P2P in the past for some of
their Demos, Back Tracks, Alternate Takes, and Rehearsals.

I'd like to see any RIAA endorsed "Pay" service offer those from any artist!

Talk about ironies. When the Fab Four were producing the music for which they were justly famous, they blazed trails which many a subsequent rock act has taken in the years -- make that decades -- since. Now, regarding new technology such as the Internet, they have adopted the anti-tech, neo-Luddite position of the entire multinational entertainment-media complex -- to the detriment of everybody. I suspect that had Lennon not been assassinated, he likely would've gotten in line (albeit probably dragged into it) with the surviving bandmates.

thair not being aint tech W-B like i sed in a past post thay are not worried thair songs are being down load online for free and don't wish to charge for them so thay let you have them for free only and give you no choice but to download them for free thay don't want your money. thay made music for the love of the music and thats the bottom line bleave it or not thair use to be musicans that made music for thair fans and not thair pockets

ps.also thay prolly know any new exposer is good exposer for a band that the youth may or may not lisson to and getting it free would help promot thair CDs

Just BE CAREFUL, the Beatles DON'T OWN alot of the songs they made! - Micheal Jackson does! Thus the reason behind him and Paul fueding for the last 20 years, HOWEVER, word has it that Micheal will have to sell these rights pretty soon, cause he's spending WAY more than he makes, Paul Mc Cartney is now worth a solid billion dollars, and wants his songs rights back, the Beatles got screwed in the early days of the band, YES, by the record company, that's WHY they formed APPLE in the 1st place!
By the way, I have about 120 mp3 Beatles songs, and an additional 20 or so from after they split up! I'll put the ones owned by Apple on Kazaa, ( Yes I STILL have it, but would like to find something better, I also have Filetopia but there's only like 3500 users at any given time.

That's the problem with copyrights...too many times SOMEBODY ELSE owns them!

I wonder if the RIAAA could sue those with a substantial vinyl beatles collection and just want to back up with MP3? (I know they are only suing the uploaders)

Im with grEdkilz, most folks I know want the stuff the pay per download sites will never offer.
