MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman Vince Neil says he doesn't believe artists are losing a significant amount of revenue from online file-swapping.
"If you look at it in the real perspective, it's pennies," he says on the CRÜE's website here.
"You make your money at the concert tours, you're selling your merchandise, they're still going to buy your records too if they're fans."
Neil also lit off at the RIAA for lining 12-year-old Brianna LaHara up to be sued.
"I just think it's terrible these big companies will go after a 12-year-old," Neil told Canada's Edmonton Sun. "They're the ones who shove Britney Spears and these people down your throat, and then when it's on the Internet and you can download it, why wouldn't you?
"It just boggles my mind that these companies would be so petty as to do something like this. It's pretty shameful."
(Thanks for the pointer, cmitch21 : )

ok, good quotes and now watch, Motley Crue's website will get more hits, their music will get more downloads, and they will have a few more CD sales. the short history of filesharing has shown us how this works, someone gets exposure, d/ls go up, and so do CD sales....now tell me, where is the problem with this?!

vince why not get a movement going with all the other popular artists and publicly come out against this. I think it's great these artists are making these statements but It would have more effect and get mor attention if they came forward in mass. why not start a letter writing campaign to our artists to do just that

This will have a lot more meaning when Audioslave, Incubus, J-blow, and the rest of 'em speak up.
I agree, though, it's a start.
Keep up the pressure, the boycott will work.

It's pretty sad when the only ones who can see clearly are guys who have spent more time stoned than some of the people being sued. We still have a ways to go but at least the issue is coming to the front of the line. I wonder when the mainstream media will catch on. And just so I don't sound ungrateful, thanx Vince. There are plenty more people who could offer up a stand as well. Speak out now because tommorrow may be too late.

I don't care what compromise or solution they come to on the P2P thing. We need to boycott the RIAA into extinction or at least till all they have left is enough money to refund all the INNOCENT people they are bilking with these lawsuits. Seig hail Mein Shermin.

I agree with Vince, I have all but one CD from Motley crue, when I use to do the p2p thing I would get video clips of them in interviews . As for downloading,I would use p2p to check other bands music to see if they live up to their name.. Motley sure does in my book! For me I got my moneys worth from the Crue..

Older groups like Motley Crue,Whitesnake, Great White, Scorpions, Kiss, ZZ Top, and others, really depend on their continued popularity to the fans that made them hits to begin with, and many of these fans, will, from time to time, download one or two of their favorite tunes that maybe they had on an old CD they bought and lost, or that got scratched. More of the older rock groups certainly owe more to their fans than they do to a label or to the RIAA, and they SHOULD speak out in defense of fans and customers. Think that after 20 years the label would give a crap about them if fans still didn't come to concerts and buy albums/CDs? Not on your tin type. Labels have a heart as warm as a bar of steel lying in the snow.

As a p.s., my wife and I in the past five or six years have gone to the concerts of all these groups and supported them (including Scorpions , Kiss,David Bowie,Whitesnake,ZZ Top,Aerosmith,Flock of Seagulls, Whang Chung,NIN,Poison, Warrant,Great White,Firehouse,Cinderella, Def Leppard, Ted Nugent, Lynrd Skynrd , Winger, and many more) and thousands of other fans have as well. I didn't see Cary-Sue buying a ticket for the first three rows...

I agree. It's comforting and encouraging to see that there are several high-popularity bands and individuals out there that agree that the RIAA has gone too far. Too bad it seems Metallica isn't one of them, they're one of my favorite groups too - even so, I'm really starting to regret buying their albums.

This is great, I still wish I could see and hear more opinions from the artist themselves. I've found a few scrapes here and there, but I def. want some more. I think after all these lawsuits the artist are starting to come out of their comfort zone and actually fight for their fans. That's a great feeling.

It's interesting to see how Mr. Neil's take on this situation seems to differ from ex-Crue'r Tommy Lee's. After all, I.I.N.M., Mr. Lee had revealed himself some time ago to be yet another useful idiot for the multinational entertainment-media complex and its radical Imperial Copyright Junta, and their war against consumers and new technology.

Thank goodness many of the well-known artists from my teenage years are speaking out IN FAVOR OF file-sharing!!
I hope more artists will speak out against these lawsuits that the RIAA is doing, and will come out in favor of file-sharing!!

in a recent article even michelle branch spoke out against the RIAA and what they are doing, for someone so young, and with so much talent *yes sorry people she does have pretty good vocal control, and will only get better and doesn't use sex to sell her music unlike b.s. or c.a.* and of course the indie scene is supporting the filesharing cause thats how alot of us find out about new music *shrugs* but then again, i think alot of the newer artists, as well as some of the older know they don't make most of their money on CD sales, they make it at concerts and seling merch. now they just need to take back the lables and run it right, free music, but still gotta pay for concerts and such, they would make much more money, and people wouldn't be getting mad at them and there would be no more boycott! see, it's just so easy, but cary-sue wants to make it seem SOOOO hard....oh well, their loss

Another artist finally seeing the light. First the guy from Disturbed, now Vince..wonder who will come to their senses next? It would be funny if a big name RIAA puppet like Brittney Spears said something.
