Country music legend Johnny Cash is gone at the age of 71.
He died of complications from diabetes, say statements from the Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
Cash's wife, June Carter Cash, died in May.
'The Man in Black' was a country and western singer, but his music went well beyond the genre.

His last commercial release was a cover of a Nine Inch Nails song, Hurt.
Johnny sang from his heart, and when you heard that voice, you knew it was the Man in Black telling it like he saw it.
Johnny, Rest In Peace man.
Thanks for your music and honesty.
Condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

I just remarked on another page I didn't Cash would be around long after June Carter passed away. His devotion to her was movingly stated in the liner notes to his beautiful swan song The Man Comes Around. By all means check this album out, you will not be disappointed. In tribute I am listening to A Boy Named Sue right now!! His contributions to the world of music should (and will) never be forgotten!!!

ILUVELPEES - I always enjoy your comments my friend. You really hit the nail on the head.
You're right. June actually passed away in June I think, ironically enough. Mr. Cash had a hard life. He was in prison for a time (Folsom) and when he became a big star, went back there to do shows for the prisoners.
Johnny was a class act. It's weird when you outlive someone who has been around as long as you have been alive.
I always liked his version of the Kris Kristofferson song, "Sunday Morning Coming Down".
Johnny's death, the RIAA, and the rest, makes we wish this world was going differently, know what i mean?
Bad, Bad, Bad...geez, there HAVE to be some good news on the horizon...
I hope....

Thanks Code, and I can always count on a post of yours to either challenge me to think or brighten my day as well. I think a change for the better is on the horizon and someday (hopefully soon) we will be able to sleep a little easier each night.

I am sorry for the passing of a music legend in his own time. While never much of a country fan, Johnny Cash was an exception. While I don't have any of his music I can still remember as a teenager listening to the song of him stealing his Cadallic one part at a time from the factory...

The Man in Black .
He was one of the greatest in the world of rockabilly. He will surely be missed but long live his music.

Johnny was part of the outlaw movement in the 70's and for this alone makes him
worthy of our respect, but he was also a great musician ,and a great man.
Rest in peace Johnny you will be missed, and I am happy that you get to be with June again, for ever.

My mom listen to Johnny a lot when she was alive ,so I heard his music played in the house when I was a kid. There was a few songs I liked , but I'm mostly rock-n-roll. So R.I.P. Johnny!

Growing up, my parents used to buy a record every month. We would all take turns picking out what record to buy. When it became my turn for the first time, I picked a Johnny Cash album. Still have it. Still love everything about it. A sad day indeed. A day worth celebrating the man who shared so much with so many.

Warren Zevon, Johnny Cash and Wesley Willis, just a few of the many people who passed this last few months that I will miss dearly.
In the immortal words of Wesley Willis, "Rock over London, Rock on Chicago!"
