Micro$oft has been ordered to pay $520.6 million to a Chicago man and the University of California for patent infringement.
"Michael D. Doyle, chief executive of Eolas Technologies Inc., claimed that while he was at the University of California in San Francisco in the early 1990s, he and two other researchers developed the technology that allows a Web browser, such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer, to access interactive features of a Web page," says a Washington Post story here, going on:
"The three men filed for a patent in 1994 and were awarded it in 1998. Microsoft's browser came out in 1995 but the suit alleged that Microsoft began using the technology after the patent was filed and used it after the patent was issued. They argued that Microsoft's infringement allowed it to destroy competition from Netscape Communications, which pioneered Web browsing but now has less than 10 percent of the market."
Micro$oft spokesman Jim Desler said the company's browser was built on technology developed by Micro$oft, and that MS will appeal, the Post adds.

Netscape destroyed?
Mozilla, Mozilla FireBird, Galeon. TONS of browsers use Netscape's gecko rendering engine, so it's still there.
This is good news. I look forward to seeing them go bankrupt soon.  |

520.6 mil is nothing to M$. but who cares about them anyway. Linux is becoming more popular everday and Mozilla is slowly gaining popularity among the linux users and internet savy people.
the micro giant will be braught down!

 Yea or no. Linux is a piece of shit operating system that I wouldn't run for free, ironically enough. And no, are you fucking stupid? They're not going bankrupt as long as Gates is breathing. Gates could spend $10.1-billion on Microsoft to renovate and whatnot and still be the richest man in the world. I think anyone who uses a Linux system in the mistaken belief that it's a better system to run should have his mouse-hand cut off and then repeated slapped with it until he recognizes that Microsoft is undefeatable. |
