RIAA NAMES MITCH BAINWOL AS CHAIRMAN & CEO
Bainwol to start September 1st

Washington, DC – Mitch Bainwol, former Chief of Staff to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN), was named today as Chairman & CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America by the RIAA Board of Directors.

Cary Sherman, President and General Counsel of the RIAA, and member of the search committee said, “Mitch’s strong background and experience will be a real asset to the RIAA. We welcome him to the RIAA and look forward to working with him on the important issues facing our industry at this crucial time.”
"Mitch brings to the RIAA the consummate insider's understanding of political nuance in Washington," stated Roger Ames, Chairman & CEO, Warner Music Group. "I'm confident he has the ability to clearly communicate the issues and challenges the music industry faces and to partner effectively with the computer, consumer electronics and music publishing businesses to help us address those issues in all appropriate forums."

"Mitch Bainwol has the skills, leadership and relationships that this industry needs as we enter an extremely pivotal time," said David Munns, CEO EMI Music North America. "He has proven leadership abilities, having guided some extremely successful legislative and policy initiatives in recent years. He is thoughtful and incisive and we look forward to having him join Cary Sherman and the RIAA team in communicating and reinforcing to the public and to policy makers the value that music has in our society."

"Mitch Bainwol has a strong reputation as an articulate and highly effective leader. His experience in the political arena is extensive and multifaceted, and he enjoys the respect of legislators on both sides of the aisle. Mitch's track record of developing strategic initiatives that get real results makes him the perfect choice to lead the RIAA. I look forward to working closely with him, as well as with Cary Sherman and the entire RIAA staff, on a wide array of issues," said Michele Anthony, Executive Vice President, Sony Music Entertainment.

Stated Mitch Bainwol, “I'm delighted to take on this role. It is an honor to be associated with such a talented and creative group. I am especially pleased to be working in partnership with Cary Sherman, and look forward to tapping into his expertise about the music business. What could be more rewarding than helping to promote two great American traditions: music and property rights?”

Bainwol who currently runs the lobbying firm The Bainwol Group, was previously Executive Director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), and before that, chief of staff to U.S. Senator Connie Mack (R-FL) for nine years.

Bainwol will start at the RIAA on September 1.

...cut him off at the pass. Vote this November. Boycott the Riaa. Then Bainwol will have no money to lobby with...and few interested congressmen. Let's see him ride that dead horse....

Oh boy, another chimp in a suit. Someone call up the zoo before he starts throwing poo at us.
I'm almost thinking they may have brought this guy on board for their final 'oomph', and if it should fail they have someone to blame.

I'm sorry, but what about his ties to the community, the consumer, or the artists? Oh, sorry, that has nothing to do with anything. They just want another political muscle so they can rob us of MORE freedom, while force feeding us more of the same mindless, boring SHIT we've been getting lately.
Also, if music is such an "American tradition", why the HELL is it so damn EXPENSIVE?

Like Sideshow-dis... said "but what about his ties to the community, the consumer, or the artists?" RIAA took this guy on because of his political clout. Does he even know what a guitar is? I wonder. Just like the rest of those whiney little bitches at RIAA, they all play the same musical instrument - THE SKIN FLUTE

"...two great American traditions: music and property rights?”

ummm?

Baseball. Check.
Apple Pie. Check.
4th of July. Check.
Property Rights?

I'm glad to see "an _articulate_ and highly effective leader" uttering the most absurd statement to ever appear in a press release. I'm so stunned I'm even willing to let the idea of "music" as an "American Tradition" slip past.

Mitch, as your first order of business, please, please hire a new PR firm to write your statements for you. I hate to see a man with such a fine history in the noble and vital American Tradition of legislative lobbying appear stupid.

Or Snitch Sue'emall...
Looks like he bought a defective flowbee to cut his hair with....
It's obvious what was going on when they took the picture...one of two scenarios...either they ask him how many dollars it takes to buy him off...or they asked him his IQ.
I notice he took his coat off to fool us so we wouldn't think he was one of the "suits"...kinda reminds me of Jimmy Hoffa..fat and trisorially challenged..."but I wanna tell you"...

From politician (aka: Crook) to RIAA thug (aka: Crook)... What is the difference?

Why these people don't conceed to this before its too late, I'll never know. P2P isn't going anywhere. They can TRY to mire the courts in bogus cases, and may even be able to prosecute a few joe-average Kazaa users. The impact won't be noticed. If anything, the courts will probably become calous to these types of bullshit cases. If the law doesn't serve the people, then the law needs to be changed.

And he expects to do that with the RIAA? The guy must be smoking crack because that statement is so far removed from reality that either this guy is hallucinating or just another liar.

Alright, let's start with something that everyone else seems to pick up on immediately. There are several great American traditions. Not being American myself, I couldn't begin to cover them all. However, I think I can be right in assuring everyone that music and property rights are not two of them. Know what is though? Beating and utterly crushing oppressors of society. See you in hell, Bainwol. You'll be able to pick me out of the crowd. Well, maybe not. See, I'll be the guy behind you with object that is much larger than your fist, and far less loving than a dildo.

love that reference to a George Carlin riff...great! I love his bit he does on all those business terms and what they mean. By the way...since the RIAA
is the RIAA Terrorist Network, and as the RIAA basically sells protection to the labels like the bent nosed boys from the Mafia (that doesn't exist either)..and as all real mob made men have nicknames..."Fat Tony", "Joey No Toes", etc.. I have the official nicks for the heads of the RIAA...
there's Cary "BigLips" Sherman, and
Mitch "Itchy Bunghole" Brainhol.
Ok. that's the official nomenclature.
But then, since these arseholes are so stuck on themselves... I thought maybe instead of screwing with small potatoes like the RIAA, they should go into movies, and I already have the roles for them.
Itchy Bunghole reprises the unforgettable Ned Beatty character which debuted in Deliverance..the movie will be Deliverance II- I downloaded in my pants. "You got some purdy lips there"...
Biglips Sherman, will be doing his version of the Robin Williams character, Ms. Doubtfire, in the new movie, Ms. Download, the story of a big lipped gay man who dresses like a grandmother and sues everyone for alleged copyright infringement.
There may be other fine parts for BigLips, such as in Les Cage Aux Faux or however it's spelled.
I also think Biglips would be just stunning in the sequel to the Mothman Chronicles...the new name, would be the Mouthman Chronicles: BigLips on the Run...he tries to chase down the mysterious mothmen, and serve them with subpoenas.
Casting calls are waiting boys!

I was just looking at that picture of this repub old, Itchy Bunghole, and I have discovered what he needs to make his outfit complete...see, he has the funky bowl hair cut, the barrel chest, and the suspenders (obviously a Larry King fan)...but something is missing..what is it...this plagued me all day, it called at me during lunch, what the fuck does he still neck to be complete? Then, a voice (I think it was God, but sounded a lot like Bob Hope) gave me the answer...
He needs a bright gold furry pimp hat, with a big , pink feather...and that would make the picture complete...furthermore, it would empower him to do a music video so he could hang with da homies on the various labels..he could do his cover of P.I.M.P. by 50 cent (or half dollar or however much they are worth).
Ta da...dat's da answer!

They are talking to Cindy Cohn of EFF about the RIAA crap on TechTV right now...she seems like a really nice lady! She said most of the subpoenas were 7 day subpoenas to give up alleged violator's identification.
She says that they do not have to prove any damages...there is a presumption of damages.

The reason why the RIAA's efforts won't last is because content providers like myself see too many advantages of p2p content distribution. 909 Media Entertainment, provider of online content and rich media technologies,
is proud to announce the second season launch of its online television network. The new season, which begins in October 2003, will be released over peer to peer networks. The 909 Media online television network will feature a number of channels that predominately cater to the 15-30 year old peer to peer user. Channels will consist of compelling urban content that is distributed utilizing innovative technology. Episodes from each channel are distributed in the ”Labyrinth”, a customized download package, which is traded over peer to peer networks such as Kazaa, Morpheus, WinMX and Bear Share to name a few. Each download package incorporates e-commerce links so users may watch content and advertisements while they simultaneously purchase products. Please give us your thoughts.

Chairman Itchy Bunghole is gonna inherit a hell of a mess and record sales in the toilet...Nostradamus said it in Century 5, Quatrain 4
"In the birth of winter, the fat man will fall in the mud, and the sounds of cracking music discs shall fill the sky" (also Nostradamus agrees with me that Itchy Bunghole needs a big gold furry pimphat with a feather to complete his ensemble)

"Well, I've been to one worlds fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing I ever heard come over a set of earphones."

"Your Commie(RIAA) has no regard for human life. Not even his own."

on Kazaa:
"I don't think it's quite fair to condemn a whole program because of a single slip-up."
--General Turgidson
On our need for proper media coverage:
"Gee, I wish we had one of them doomsday machines."
--General Turgidson

On the boycott and denying the RIAA our money...
"I do deny them my essence."

On a message to Cary:

On the RIAA's new lawsuit machine:

It is not only possible - it is essential. That is the whole idea of this machine, you know. Deterrence is the art of producing in the mind of the enemy the fear to attack. And so, because of the automated and irrevocable decision-making process which rules out human meddling, the Doomsday Machine is terrifying. It's simple to understand. And completely credible and convincing.
