Watching the end of days for the RIAA.
Posted by AdvancedBill Evans in on July 20, 2003 at 3:06 PM

How cross, the stern masters of music,
how empty their weary life,
how sad their desperation.

Hark, now, their knock upon your door.
The living dead from the record store.
With little left but their wish to die
and to drag you down for flying high.

Watching the end of days for the RIAA.

"..In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble and the strong men shall bow themselves; the grinders will cease because they are few and those that look out of the windows will find them darkened and their doors shall be shut to the streets; when the sound of the grinding is low, shall they rise up at the voice of the bird, but they shall find the daughters of music are brought low... " --Ecclesiastes

I must admit
I am no fan
Of slimy RIAA leader of s#it
Cary Sher-man.

He shall carry a cardboard sign
In the time to come
Begging for money in line
Please give me some.

And their shyster lawyers will turn
and demand that they be paid
for the bridges they did burn
through the plans they have laid.

I recall the day the RIAA died
Everyone was there to cheer and smile
For as with other tyrants that lied
They became another blank spot on life's radio dial.

Oh this industry
that is twisting my arm
step on my liberties
wishing me only harm

If only you knew
If only you saw
that making a martyr
makes emotions run raw

You were Once the Goliath
but now you will fall
at the hands of millions of Davids
who are very appalled

Greetings all, just joined up today. Good to see an organization with an agenda that's worthwhile. Don't stop downloading, continue this Civil Disobediance.

I think I got the best way to Shut up the RIAA for good.

To a Non Japanese Person (or non Anime Fan) what is more annoying than Japanese Pop Music? Blast some o that out side the RIAA execs homes and I gurantee they'll never bug us again.

Seriously I've shut up alot of people with Ayumi Hamasaki

J-Pop rocks!

Well some of it.

If you're into it.

This is a bit off topic, but is it possible for someone to work up a flow chart like the law enforcement people do on crime families, but this one show the RIAA families? I bet if we continued up the pyramid, we would be surprised at where all this leads. There are usually larger and larger rates as one goes up the chain of command and control.

I think that the RIAA flow chart is a good idea. Works for other types of organized crime, right? I'll put money down on the fact that the ringleader of the RIAA is Jimmy Hoffa. He and Elvis.

My life is made a bitter task
Hiding behind an IP mask.
The cause of this? one asks of me;
I'll tell you what it is (for free)!

It's brought on by a pile of filth,
A shit-hole eaten up by wealth,
It goes by name "RIAA,"
And it decrees that all must pay.

But pay for what? the question rests,
As corp'rate apes pound on their chest,
What can they do to make it worse?
As they stuff change into their purse.

But back down will I never do,
Never until I know they're through!
So sue me, kill me, beat me down,
For not long will they keep the crown!

I wonder... would everyone here continue their sharing assault if they got one of those legal letters in the mail today. It begs a very important question about the stamina of the movement.

For my part, I don't know if I honestly could, what with the responsibilities I have. I like the poem, but could they be REALLY that 'sad, weary, and desperate' when they are STILL having operational sales in the billions per annum?

AdminCodeWarrior

Svensta- the reality is that if we don't push this issue, there will be many more letters, and not just from the RIAA, but from everyone you can imagine. This is a test case and you can bet the MPAA is watching to see what happens. The RIAA are desperate. I mean think about it, how desperate do you have to be to sue hundreds or thousands of the same people who buy your crap. It would be like Wal_Mart randomly suing thousands of their customers with the notion that some of them have shoplifted in the past. Most of these big companies have been employing "creative accounting" for several years now to keep their stockholders from finding out how broke they are. Look at Enron and WorldCom...I doubt that many people who seriously observe the music industry or just the news, could look at what the RIAA is doing and NOT conclude this is an act of desperation, and most would conclude, this is an act of hara kiri. They will , in the end, disembowel themselves on the sword of litigation.

I've read around today about how the RIAA wants to basically hack our computers and/or put viruses on them. I say lets fight fire with fire. Now I'm not saying I'm going to do this or you should go do this (just to cover my ass), but it wouldn't be all that bad to see someone hack RIAA.com and fuck those bastards right back.

Once upon a midnite dreary,
while I pondered weak and weary,
fingers sore, eyeballs teary
from downloading "illegal" songs by the score.

Suddenly a strange desire
prompted me to light a fire
cds and mds and dvds alite
burning bright into the night

Bright it burned, a brilliant blaze
that told me as in it's final roar
"It's the music that counts"
Forevermore.

And, if this whole fiasco were the Oscars, the RIAA and MPAA would have to should out props to the sleazy toadies who do the tech work for invading P2Ps through their bots and spiders...here's some info on these "gentlemen"

The thing is that RIAA and MPAA hire toadies, companies building and releasing copyright bots and spiders into the P2P arena to find files and snitch on users hosting them. Media enforcer was bought out by BayTSP.com
There is Ranger Inc, and a bunch of other toadies internationally. None of these toadies were very big companies before. Media Enforcer's site was hosted on Tripod for goodness sake.

Heh. Legal letter? I'll give them one right back.

As for these being acts of desperation, they are. But they're working. And they'll continue to work so long as people comply without being threatened themselves. The only way to stop them is to make this a costly effort. Through prosecution when they violate you, and through fighting your own battle to the end, not giving up before it starts.

what the riaa is doing is setting a dangerous precident. what if the sports industry got involved by suing people like me who run a fantasy league on grounds that im using copyrighted logos, team names and player names with out the written concent of the (insert pro league here). and sports addon sites for games like nhl 02 or 03. do we want to go down the path of a copyright war. this is very troubling.
