R.I.A.A. Get No Sympathy From Me
Posted by AlternativeChristopher-Michael in on June 28, 2003 at 9:47 PM

As a musician perhaps I would be at least a little sympathetic towards the R.I.A.A. and their plights of record sales losses due to pirating and P2P networks if they showed interest in helping their signed artists and not using them solely as cash cows.

I believe that it would be fair to state that 85% of the effor that goes into an album would be on the part of the artist. It is the artist that writes the songs, does the physical recording of the album and then goes out on tour to support their work.

A label would put out the money for recording and album pressings and then use their distributing companies to put the albums out on the market. While their money CAN be important to an artist to put out a quality looking and sounding album, mass produce a large number of albums and then get them into more stores, how much money do they actually receive in return?

And it doesn't end with the labels trying to make more money than they deserve....

I can name two bands and the mistreatment that they had to endure before being fed up with it and leaving the label to help paint a more accurate picture of the reasons why the labels and their guardian receive no pity from me.

Caroline's is an incredible band that I've loved for years. They build a large following by putting out a few independent records and by touring as extensively as they could. Finally Hollywood Records took notice of them and signed them. After being signed, the only support that the band received from their label was being put on the soundtrack for An American Werewolf in Paris (which is where first heard them). Hollywood Records was not booking them any more shows than they had done in the past and they still found themselves booking their own shows. After getting fed up with the lack of support, the band left the label and have gone back to putting out their own albums and setting up their own tours so that atleast they could have full control over their sound again.

And the other band is myDownfall

I think that the RIAA Is just pissed that they didnt think of P2P First and arent profiting from it...... If those dumb asses would go hit the books and used whatever college education they got they would see the potential that the P2P networks really have. If you look at it from a business perspective anyone if thier right mind would see that P2P networks if done right could stimulate the economy and save resources and altimately eliminate pointless jobs that are done by machines. Instead of going after the individual person that is using the network the RIAA needs to invest time and money into supporting the P2P network. First what the RIAA should do is place a resonable price per song that is downloaded such as say 15 cents a song or so that way the individual user can afford to buy the songs and not pay for songs that dont want such as the shit that comes along with the number one hit at the time. THen they need to stop making cds and allow the user to just burn the discs themselves.and as for the little buck and the lable on the cd artist should just place a downloadable file on the internet where the lable and book could be printed by the user if they want it because have the time i know i dont need either because the CD normally ends up in the sleeve of my visor cd holder in my car.(Now we have possibly saved some trees and cut back on the machine printing the companies paid for and placed that in the users hands Hmmmm.. wonder what that does) The user would end up buying more and more cd-r or CD-RW to burn more and they would also buy more printer ink and paper if they chose to have the cd book and or cd lable... Hmm more money into the economy is that a good thing!? and what does that do for the record companies hmmm saves money on the production and hmm where could that money go hmm who knows maybe invest into more P2P networks or possibly other parts of the economy and by now the money should be flowing in and more people could end up with Jobs by this investing what a cawinkie dink eh?! But then again you have to figure in the greedy bastard theory and buda bing your back to the RIAA being retarded and trying to get 5 dollars from the 15 year old they are sueing shit i dont know about you but i like the 5 dollars from the 15 year old it sounds to be more profitable!! HAHA yeah right...

Greed and control... that is all the RIAA is about. They have nothing to do with art or music.

Well, duh, we've been saying that for months.

Maybe one of these days, that bunghole Cary (now that Hilary's stepped down), or one of his obedient mooks, will run across us and realize we're on to them...because they sure as hell are ignoring every letter we send them.

PeerGuardian blocked a suspected MPAA IP address from connecting to my computer. Is there a way that i can report this attempted hack to the FBI?

i think the record companies are stealing more money than ever now that they have someone to blame the thefts on. and the artists are believeing them when the first rule of the music business is "DONT TRUST THE LABEL" these artists have heard lies from these companies for 20 years and decide now to believe them?

It is all a very unfortunate situation for new upcoming talent.Todays bands have to do nore than make good records with great songs. They also have to hone skills in public relations, promotion, sales, etc.
