Winamp 2.90 Final
Posted by DMemberRed in on April 11, 2003 at 4:35 PM

It's official: Winamp 2.x is not only alive and well, but evolving too. This release makes Winamp 2.x officially a media player; not just a music player. Along with one of the most extensive arrays of audio formats in a music player, it now supports mpeg, avi, divx, any other format you have codex for, and nsv (nullsoft video). When a video file is played, the new video window will automatically appear. The files play as naturally as audio ones.

The library window is now working nicely too. One of my favorite things about it is that it has internet radio stations like "Digitally Imported" easily accessible on it. You don't have to go to winamp's site to find them, or MacGuyver your own make-shift system of saved url playlist files. It also has internet TV, devices, playlists, and local audio & video listings. This database approach can be very powerful if used to it's fullest.

Unfortunately these new windows will show up as the default skin usually. This is because they completely unique compared to the rest of winamp, and are only included by some of the most recent skins. Older skins should be relatively easy to updated if all the preceding windows were skinned.

Here is the full & official list of changes:
* hot new default skin, done by none other than the evil robot turned good, Steve Gedikian
* added integrated full featured video support (NSV and DirectShow (AVI,ASf,MPEG,etc))
* added library (complete with media database, shoutcast listing, playlist editing,
CD listing, mass tag editing, plugin API for portable devices, and more!)
* updated Winamp's window docking code to be more robust/extensible
- made AVS dock use this new API
* updated PCM equalizer with code from 4Front Technologies/George Yohng. Quality is a lot better.
* updated equalizer default skin to show the true +12db/-12db range (the 20db was a veeery old typo)
* a ton of new WM_WA_IPC API calls.
- general purpose plugin window support
- extended metadata system for getting more than just title/length of items.
- lots of exposed features via IPC
* updated to PP's latest input and output plugins
* focus/Z order change on window close related bugfixes
* added track numbers and song lengths in HTML generated playlists
* removed all ATL code, shoved EXE size by 20kb :)
* added digital audio extraction in in_cdda.dll
(needs WNASPI32.DLL under Windows 9x/ME)
* added Alt+M shortcut for minimizing Winamp
* added Ctrl+(Keypad +)/Ctrl+(Keypad -) shortcuts in playlist editor for changing font size
* fixed stop after current menu item trash related bug
* added ultravox support for in_mp3
* made in_mp3 not display 'unknown X' for empty id3 tags
* installer uses leet new NSIS 2.0b3
* improvements to the setup process
* made the keep on screen code multimonitor smart and better
* fixed & error in tooltips in winamp and winamp's systray icons
* and TONS more! (new SDKs will be posted soon.)

Um... it seems ya got a couple problmes with linking. It linked .dll files, and the a tags died. Oh well. Here's a fixed link: http://classic.winamp.com/

well the the site has autolinking, so if I typed null.dll, it will try to make it a link.

Anyhow, I've had this for about a week, and it's really nice to have the radio and TV stuff built-in to the media library! :D (Big Grin)

Fixed the link.

I don't like Winamp being my all-in-one media player. :/

Creativetim: The lite version doesn't have that stuff, and I think it's optional at the install. Thx for fixin the link btw. 8) (Cool)

RyanS: Ya, I can't really use the tv on my modem, but having all the radio stations right there is so sweet. ^.^

I do love Winamp, but when 3.0 came out I rushed out to download it and was thoroughly disappointed. I might download the lite version though.
