Dunno why my mailbox is filling with info on musicians' contests all of a sudden. But for those who are interested: Musical Planet (
http://www.musicalplanet.org) has a competition of its own going, offering a grand prize of $25,000 to one lucky artist.
This competition is a little more DJ-friendly, offering a specific category for scratch DJs' entries. Other genre categories include Pop, Hip-Hop/R&B, Electronic, Punk, Heavy Rock, Country, Instrumental, Vocal/A Capella, and Acoustic/Folk. "Proceeds from this competition will go towards land conservation and the integration of alternative energy into the world," the contest organizers trumpet at their site.
Along with that $25,000 grand prize, there's a $5,000 second prize and a $2,000 third prize along with $500 awards to the winners in each category. Entry fees for this contest run $25 per song, and the deadline is April 30. Rules and other information are available at
http://www.musicalplanet.org which I must confess is one of the ugliest websites I've seen in a long, long time. As before, best of luck.
