There will be within a month an Ogg Vorbis hardware player, made by Neuros.
What had to be overcome, is the CPU problem, as to play Ogg Vorbis files, the player needs floatring point capability, which is found in modern, or even four year old CPUs, yet not in normal players.
Also, the makers of the player, will include perfect Linux compatibility, as lots of Vorbis development occured on Linux platforms. It will not be anything developed by a third party, as a simple hack or third party non supported driver, the Linux compatibility with the player will be supported with first part software.
The Neuros Digital Audio Player will be out by March 1st, and will have Linux and Vorbis compatibility through the NeuRosetta firmware by May, which is being worked on now.

Some of the article was cut out, my fourth time, I am truly cursed.
http://neurosaudio.com/ Site of the player, it's really cool, almost like a PDA!
http://vorbis.com/~emmett/neuros/signing.png The signing of the contract between xiph and neuros.
If only v. GT3 could come out earlier, some clips that screw up at -q8 don't screw up with v.GT3(it's still in beta) at -q5...

jmweirick; it isn't the player that makes it awesome, it's the firmware . Meaning we'll be seeing a lot more Ogg Vorbis players, yey!

firmware? not sure what it is, but, from the rest of the post i think you mean that i was saying that the player made ogg cool. i love ogg vorbis period, i loved it even before i found out about the player. either way when i can get a really cheap ogg player (say $9.95) i'll buy it.

Firmware is the software the player has so it has its features and can play Ogg Vorbis and MP3.

Why do you say that?
All you have to do is put the free downloadable firmware onto the player, it works just like transferring music to it, just you do it with it's software that comes with it. You can play Ogg Vorbis files on it, once you put the firmware on it

Hi All,
I was searching the web and found this site and post. Hey, you know, it's a year and five months later and thought it was worth mentioning that we did totally come out with the Ogg Vorbis support and everyone really loves it. We've just released a new version of the device that's all black, new firmware O/S, it's pretty spiff.
Anyway, I just wanted to put in a quick update. There's a lot of great community on the site, lots of Ogg people, tapers, musicians and 10 other kinds of love on the forums. You should come visit us if you ever feel like it, we are www.neurosaudio.com.
Take care all,
Kathryn
