A Temporary Solution for File Uploading
Posted by AdvancedBill Evans in on January 12, 2003 at 12:27 AM

We know how much some of you want to upload some more music files for your listening public. While we are still working on the upgrade, we've come up with a temporary solution for you. It requires FTP and a couple of things to do but it will work in the meantime for uploads and downloads.

We've created a directory on our hosting server that you can upload to.

You will need to use a FTP program such as cuteftp or wsftp to accomplish this.

The host is www.dmusichost.com (Use that as the IP)

Under username use: dmusic@dmusichost.com
Under password use: indie

It takes a few seconds for the server to redirect to the folder be patient...it will automatiaclly close after 5 minutes if you aren't active uploading or downloading or moving around.

Create a directory such as chillin.dmusic.com (use your dmusic artist name)
the upload your music there.

This is an open FTP so users can upload or download from this directory.
NO RIAA Music or file storage folks it will be deleted, without notice.

Users can FTP in to download or go to http://www.dmusichost.com/Dmusic/ to see what has been uploaded and to download.

We're still looking at a few more days on the harddrive upgrade thanks for your patience.

Bill

Let's all upload new Chillin music!
This way we can either give him superstardom or wreck him with crappy. poorly-produced tracks. I am fetching my Fisher-Price xylophone and my kazoo. Suddenly, I am inspired!

The temporary solution or the regular uploading?

I've been holding off on the temporary solution in case I had to do it all over again when the servers came back.

I'm happy to do it, but do we have a rough idea of when it will be working again? There's a couple things I want to upload, and if it's a few days I'll wait (heck I've been waiting this long) but if it's going to be longer I'll just go ahead and use the temp solution.

Leflaw did you get the WSFTP instructions I sent? :) (Smile)

WS_FTP LE is an FTP client designed for use on Windows systems. It can be downloaded for free from www.cnet.com.

To configure and use WS_FTP LE:

1. Launch WS_FTP LE. The Session Properties window appears. Click New to create a new session.

2. In the Profile Name field, enter a descriptive label for the profile you are creating. This label is useful if you are administering more than one site.

3. In the Host Name/Address field, enter your domain name without the www prefix. For example, sampledomain.com.

4. In the Host Type field, select Automatic Detection.

5. In the User ID field, enter your Master User name or the user name for the FTP account created for you in SiteControl.

6. In the password field, enter the password for the account name you specified.

7. To save the password so that you do not have to enter it each time you connect, select the Save Pwd option

8. If desired, enter a comment in the Comment field.

9. Click Apply. Then, select the Startup tab.

10. In the Initial Remote Site Folder field, enter the path to your Web directory:

/home/[domainname]/www

Where [domainname] is the name of your domain without the www prefix or the extension (.com, .net, etc.).

11. If desired, select the local directory you will be working with most frequently.

12. Click OK to save your session information.

13. WS_FTP automatically attempts to establish a connection to the server. If you did not select the Save Password option on the General tab, you will be prompted for your password.

Enter your password and click OK.

14. The WS_FTP LE main window displays your remote and local files.

15. To upload files, in the right pane select the directory to which you want to upload. In the left pane select the file you want to upload.

16. Select ASCII to upload unformatted text files (such as .htm files) or select Binary to upload formatted files (such as images or mp3 files).

17. Click the Upload button.
