From the Archives: RIPN-Washington, DC-April 8th, 2002
The recording group "Insane Clown Posse" has sued the RIAA for trademark infringement. A lawyer for the Posse said "Insane Clown Posse is a trademarked name, and it has come to our attention that the lobbying arm of the RIAA has become commonly known as the "Insane Clown Posse" on Capital Hill." He went on "We were alerted to the matter by an alert Senate aide, who is familiar with the music of The Insane Clown Posse and said it caused confusion among the Senators and aides. The only way to tell the difference was that our guys don't carry around buckets of cash."
"We are asking the court to order the RIAA to stop its ridiculous antics and behavior on Capital Hill, as it confuses potential fans as to who the real Insane Clown Posse is, and for undisclosed damages. (But rumored to be in the 6 figure range.)
"Either that or we'll do a tag team match with Hilary Rosen and that Mitch Glazer who appears to be the head clown on Capital Hill!" "We'll show them who the real Insane Clown Posse is, although they do a pretty damn good impression" one of the members of the group was quoted as saying.
A spokesperson for the RIAA from the lawfirm of Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe said "If a trademark becomes too successful and is used to describe similar products or services the trademark can be revoked. Look at Jello™, or Formica™. All similar products became known as formica, or jello. That's why you see the phrase "Jello brand gelatin", or "Formica brand" counter tops. We intend to use every means at our disposal to defend the RIAA's right to be referred to as the Insane Clown Posse.
In other news, the Buthole Surfers were said to be considering a similar lawsuit.

And in other news, 'N Sync sues their director and manager, claiming that "This whole time we thought we sang in sync and hence why they picked the name.". It turns out, the band has always sung infront of microphones, connected to pitch-correction controlled computers, powered by powerful DSP chips that correct for minor vocal innormalities. The band members were upset and disgusted that "the studios, those we put our trust to, have lied to us and profited from it".

Mikserimies, there is an American recording and Wrestling group called the Insane Clown Posse. RIAA lobbyists act like an insane clown posse running around capital hill (US Congress) lobbying to put the hacking bill into the Patriot Act (anti terrorism bill) and othe mostly silly stupid stunts.
