Wardrum.org

This new site was bred from the breeder of Songspy to overthrow the RIAA. It's complete and sole aim is to take down the RIAA and to be honest, it doesn't look like they're fooling around.

Their site is a very informational one, but also a very costly one. You see to be a member you "enlist" in their army. Enlisting starts at $10 and goes all the way up to $100. I'm for this. Yes it's expensive, but they aren't messing around and it's time someone actually got off their ass and tried to make a difference. Some of us have, we haven't bought new CDs from the big lables, we made DMusic, but these guys are really going out there to make a difference in a big way. That's admirable.

With a membership, you get some white paper on how they're spending your money and little perks that come with each level of enlistment. Perks include, dog tags, hats, pins, patches and shirts, among other things. But most of all, you get the well being of knowing that your money is going to a very AWESOME cause!

Once again, I like this idea and this new angle. When I get my next check, I know what I'll be using it towards.

I'm going to leave you with a quote from the head hancho, or the Commander-in-Chief:
"This is it, the time is now. We have been lied to, lied on and threatened for far too long. Through Wardrum.org our voices will be heard, are you ready to fight?"

I saw that as well this morning and sent an e-mail asking if they would like to work together with boycott-riaa and have received no response. This is part of the problem. A lot of people are against the RIAA's actions, but yet won't co-operate to get the job done. Back when Napster first hit the courts there were no less than 5 sites. Out of the five we all sent people who wanted to sign the petition to one site. Once they signed the idea was to share the names and make damn sure that the RIAA and congress got copies of the sigs. One by one they lost interest as other filesharing programs became available. When I tried to get a copy of the signer of the petition for boycott-riaa which had sent the majority of the signers I was told no. Only Boycott-RIAA remains out of the sites that is still active. While the owner may have high hopes based on paid enlistments I think they are in for a surprise. While a lot of people support you verbally, few are willing to put their money where their mouth is. We recently sent a newsletter asking for support and donations for exactly the same things as Wardrum is asking for. You could donate as little as a dollar and we got a very disappointing respnse. http://www.boycott-riaa.com/newsletter/boycottnewsletter.html I do have to admit that the site is really quite slick.

The problem as I see it is that these are "Johnny come latelys" to the battle. As long as business was moving along everything was fine, but when they became a target then all of a sudden get pissed.
Why not support boycott-riaa Tim? We're doing the same exact thing and we've been there since JULY 13 of 2000, a little longer than Wardrum.org. You don't have to join boycott-riaa if you don't want to we're free!, but donations can be as little as a dollar.
http://www.usmerchant.com/leflaw/cat/6616.asp and we'll send you some neat stuff as well.

We've met with politiicans, participate daily in things like the pho list, do interviews, (One will be in the Dec issue of NME (New Music Express) NME.Com, Larry is doing an interview on copyright for a upcoming documentary, I've been interviewed by Wired twice, BBC, done live webcast interviews, more e-mail interviews than I can even begin to remember. We've been a Hotsite in USA Today, had stories written about us in the NY Times, Webnoize, Hits Daily Double, MusicDish, CNet, Been mentioned along with screenshots on Tech Tvs the Screen Savers, and Audio File (before Tech Tv cancelled it) We've met with people such as Larry Felton, Jonathan Tasini (who rode in my car to the FMOC Pho Dinner), Jessica Littman, Robin Gross and Fred von Lohman from the EFF, communicate regularly with Rick Bouchers office and his legislative assistant. I know and can communicate with every boardmember of the Future of Music Coalition, and too many to even begin to list here. I exchange e-mails with the Gov't Relations Director for Music City (Morpheus)just to name a few. There are more links to the site than I can even begin to count.

Just think about it this way, you can spend $10 to help further the dream of free music or you can spend $20 on a crappy CD, and know that you are finacing the RIAA's legal costs when they sue your ass for file trading! I think I can afford $10.

Nice new site. let's see what happens to him. He might just be a bored techie who's pissed they trashed his SongSpy. But he might not be.

Tell me how come they got SongSpy to close to easily, when they have been hunting KaZaa now for a good 2 years?
