Yes, I know, you must be thinking by now why the hell anyone even looks at this program anymore. It’s very laggy, clicking from tab to tab or from a search result to the download button would take forever. It slows down your computer no matter how good it is. It has slow searches and downloads. It’s full of bugs, etc.
That is all a thing of the past. I had tried LimeWire a few months ago and hated it. Now I think it is super. Looking at the connections windows, I got the max of 6 connects in a few seconds, while Gnucleus on 102 connects (actually the same connects on 6 different ports) connects very slowly. My downloads went quite fast, and even the bad ones went at 10 kbps. A download of a clip from the game Final Fantasy IX went at 30k, and Linkin Park My December 192k went at 72k. Download speeds went up in this version.
The lag is pretty much gone. There is no lag that I see of. The searches go quickly if you set it to have 6 connects at a time, and the most important thing is to set it in the options menu to let search results of all stars, not just 4 and 5 stars, show up. I tried a few 2 star downloads that went fine. It really chokes your search results to not set it this way.
The one improvement that I like the most is the mouse wheel compatibility. How annoying it was without being able to use a mouse wheel! It is so much more enjoyable with the mouse wheel.
Now as for spyware/adware, all there was was 3 bonzibuddy files. Just do a search for bonzibuddy, and delete it, or just use adaware. They got rid of quite a lot of the spyware in this version. Bonzibuddy is easy to get rid of.
Add to the mix that it is the only client compatible with Windows, Macs, and Linux, and you’ve got one hell of a gnutella client!
