David Letterman had an interesting take on American Idol this evening.
He described American Idol as "two young performers competing to see who will be screwed by a major record company."
You just have to ask, "What ever gave him that idea?"

Classical artists don't get screwed by major record companies! Suckers!
(Nevermind that classical artists usually don't get recording gigs to begin with...)

There is such truth to that comment that I wouldn't exactly qualify it as "funny," though.
Programs like "American Idol" also show in some ways the priorities of the multinational record business over the last couple of years; that is, away from discovering, developing and nurturing *real* talent, and towards *manufacturing* pretty-boy and / or Barbie-doll--bimbo--sex-object acts that would be completely under their control; in other words, more like a "work for hire." Do you think a Chuck Berry, Elvis, Bob Dylan et al. would even get into the door of these types of shows, let alone be in competition?

You Go Dave! Thing is, you have to wonder how much shit the network is going to give him over that seeing as how CBS is a Viacom company, who also owns MTV & VH1, who we all know are in cahoots with the RIAA

They probably won't give Dave shit because he is bringing in money.
I have noticed the increased exposure of music on TV. The other day, I was wondering why the Today show spent so much time discussing American Idol. Then they announce that the winner will be interviewed on the Today show on Friday. Hmmm.
Anyway, I'm just glad American Idol is over for this season so we won't have to hear about it anymore.

The Association is a factory now. Reality shows are the latest fads, but they have been manufacturing these types of acts forever it seems like. And being that they control ALL the avenues of distribution and marketting, they can do whatever they want.
Gimme acts like Pearl Jam, concerned artists that aren't picture perfect and really live their songs.

Honestly I think that Pop Idol (the UK version) was a big pile of shite. OK, there were some good singers but they had to sign away so many of their rights just to get into the finals or something. Someone mad a quick buck on the deal and I'm just glad he signed up a load of crap.
Whoever dreamt this up needs shooting before we get any spin-offs, er, like:
Pop Tart Idols
Spice Girl Wannabee Idols
Boring Senseless Idols - oh wait, that's already happened

Somebody had to bring up the vma huh? An overhyped vehicle to hype the already overhyped.
