Well... it's been a fun weekend... wow... the lot of you liked the VMA article last week eh?

Welcome to DMusical Notes, where the party never ends and the fun never starts... or something like that I think.

Actually I didn't do much this weekend but I attended two more local Chicagoland bands at the Cubby Bear North, I may make this a regular feature. On Friday I saw what was one of the MOST entertaining shows ever put on. The band, they're called the Famous Janes, played for a full hour and half and there wasn't a pause the entire show until they got off the stage. They were even called back for a double encore. If you are around the Chicago area look out for them, they are such a well rehearsed band, precision and great voices from all the members of the band.

On Saturday night the show I attended involved 4 gorgeous ladies of a band called Catfight. This show was great as well, they played a large variety of songs and were all quite talented. They have a sweet website too. Not too flashy but it's full of nice pictures of the beautiful girls from live shows and has a lot of background info on the band. They play every week at a bar called Durty Nelly's I believe, so go check them out some time if you can.

Signs was the number one movie this week once again... see... I told you so. I knew that movie would pick up. M. Night Shymalan is a fantastic director. Go see it if you haven't yet.

Well lets see what's in the news bag.

Britney Spears turned on by lesbian porn

Pop star gets tight with sultry adult-movie queen

EXHAUSTED pop princess Britney Spears loves watching lesbian pornographic videos and is a good friend of one of the stars, say friends.

She has befriended Jenna Jameson, a sultry porn actress who "swings both ways" on screen.

And in June, 21-year-old Spears, who is now taking a prolonged rest from show business, amazed people at Club Spin in Miami Beach, Florida, by turning up at an after-hours party thrown by porn producers Vivid Entertainment. They put out such titillating titles as On Her Back, Where The Boys Aren't, She Town and Blonde on Blonde.

An insider told the US magazine Globe: "Britney was surrounded by porn stars. They partied till the wee hours."

A friend confided: "Britney isn't the goody-two-shoes everybody thinks she is. She loves to watch porn and has her own personal collection of hot sex videos.

"Britney has an interest in all kinds of pornography.

"She is particularly taken with lesbian sex, ever since she had someone rent an all-girl video for her. She and her friends watched it together and Britney is absolutely fascinated."

The friend revealed that Spears and her friends rent raunchy movies from a store in California, near her new home.

The blonde star and her former lover, Justin Timberlake, once lived together in the multimillion-dollar mansion. A few weeks later, Spears and the 'NSync star split up, leaving her heartbroken. She had said she would remain a virgin until she married Timberlake.

She is rumoured to be dating wannabe singer Marc Terenzi.

Now Spears is consoling herself with a bizarre new friendship. She is said to be fascinated by 27-year-old Jameson, who Rolling Stone magazine says "put the star in porn star".

Jameson is famous for her sizzling lesbian scenes. A friend said: "Britney is a real fan and loves watching Jenna's videos. Jenna was really flattered, and she and Britney have become great pals."

Jameson's fiancé, Jay Sterling, declared: "There is a definite attraction between them."

He said his bride-to-be would love to perform with the pop star in a movie.

An insider explained: "I think Jenna is attracted to Britney because she always wanted to be in the music business.

"By the same token, Britney likes Jenna because she is in the porn business. She has had a thing about porn for a long time."

Jameson was given a special backstage pass to see Spears in concert in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 12. Two weeks later, she appeared at the opening of Spears's posh New York restaurant, Nyla.

Earlier this year, Spears cavorted for a night in Amsterdam's red-light district. A witness reported: "She and her friends checked out stores that sold porno stuff.

"Then she and her friends convinced the manager at the bar Fat City to keep it open after hours so she and her pals could come in and enjoy the party atmosphere.

"People were smoking pot - which is legal there - and men were walking into cathouses right next to the bar. Britney really seemed to be enjoying herself."

Spears's career is faltering, according to music insiders. Merchandise sales at her concerts have gone down. And her latest album, Britney, is doing about half as well as her previous one, Oops, I Did It Again.
Yeah... I didn't believe it either when I read it. Sorry that it's so long but I figured you'd ALL would like to read about it all in one shot. Hmm so it looks like Britney and I have something in common... maybe a relationship WOULD work... Nah she's too busy all the time.
But I wouldn't mind watching a movie or two with her some time.

Backstage at the VMAs
Credit Mtv News

Onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards, you'll see the celebs playing it calm like it's no big deal to present an award alongside one of their peers or to look into the crowd and see a sea of people staring back. But backstage it's a whole different story: The stars aren't afraid to admit that they are fans.

"Move over, guys," Chester Bennington told his Linkin Park bandmates as one of the night's hottest acts walked past them. "Make room for Avril Lavigne, she's a big star. We're only a little rock band."
"It is truly, truly a pleasure," Busta Rhymes reiterated to Sheryl Crow after the two passed each other in a hallway and took a picture together.

On the other side of the backstage area, it was Xzibit getting a little giddy, chuckling to himself and at Johnny Knoxville and his crew of Jackasses as Foxy Brown and Russell Simmons scurried by, trying to get to the entrance that led to the house.

"I love y'all dudes, y'all some wild dudes," X said giving dap to Knoxville, who had just walked offstage firing off his staple gun.

Nas was far from shooting off his mouth before he performed. The lyrical arsonist was oblivious to all around him, including his brother Jungle, who was giving him some pre-show advice. Nas simply went off into the darkness, standing on his stage set going into a five-minute-long meditation that was only broken when his prop started to move.

David Lee Roth did enough gabbing for everyone, chopping it up with anyone who would listen. He stopped Linkin Park and apologized for his presenting partner Sammy Hagar's rudeness toward them onstage. Showing he was for real about digging their music, he sang a few bars of "In the End."

As the former Van Halen singer exited, Bennington looked to his band and said, "Diamond Dave is a fan. That rules."

Even Eminem loosened up a bit. The night's big winner may have let Slim Shady come out onstage, threatening to punch Moby while accepting the Best Male Video honor, but backstage he was just plain ol' Marshall Mathers, seemingly squashing any beef he had with another person he blasted on wax. Click here for the complete 2002 MTV VMA Winners List. Walking out of sight of the audience and cameras, Eminem was engaging in a spirited conversation with award presenter Christina Aguilera that at initial glance could have easily been construed as an argument. However, once the rapper said his peace and Christina voiced on her opinions, Em, who was nodding his head and looked to be agreeing with the singer, opened his arms just as she was about to walk away and the two actually briefly embraced.

"Now that's an MTV moment," exclaimed an applauding Brandy as she stood off to the side next to Darrin Dewitt Henson of the booty-shaking how-to home video "Darrin's Dance Grooves" and the cable TV show "Soul Food."

"I'm cool, it's cool," Eminem, who was immune to the boo birds he heard onstage, said seconds later to his manager Paul Rosenburg, who was offering words of encouragement.

Earlier, Aguilera sat in a dressing room along with Brandy as they both got their makeup done. Before Aguilera went out in front of the crowd at Radio City, she was more concerned with making jokes with her friend and sending messages on her 2way pager than exchanging pleasantries with Usher, who was standing at arm's length. Usher had some fun later on with Jennifer Lopez, however.

J. Lo made it her business to give Usher a shout-out and hug as she made her way back to the house seats, walking past Jimmy Fallon and Kirsten Dunst, who kept each other amused by cracking jokes and simultaneously bopping to Nelly's "#1" while his nomination for Best Male Video was being announced.

After walking off to a standing ovation, no one could tell Puffy he wasn't the best performer of the night.

"We did it, we killed it," members of Diddy's entourage, which was about as deep in numbers as an NFL team, yelled as P.D. swaggered behind the curtains, arms victoriously raised like a boxer who just levied a first-round K.O. Diddy then started bumping chests with his crew in victorious celebration.

"Muthaf---as can't see us, son," Busta Rhymes kept repeating with his throaty growl.

Justin Timberlake had to wait until later on in the night to celebrate his first-ever solo performance. He had to change shirts and present the Viewer's Choice Award only a few moments after his routine.

He did receive the stamp of approval from his fellow 'NSYNCers, who watched J.T.'s performance on a monitor. Chris Kirkpatrick played air guitar as if he were a part of the band and Joey Fatone smiled during a few spots in the set, telling his friends, "That was real cool," as the music came to an end.

Pink was watching the monitors intently as well at the beginning of the night, saying "I knew it," and clapping as No Doubt beat her out for Best Pop Video.

Michael Jackson, who came into the building with little fanfare, didn't take home any awards — contrary to his speech — but he did exit with a 100-pound cake and a hug from Britney Spears, who told Jacko "bye" as he left minutes into the program.
Heh... yeah I know it's been mentioned but good ol' Crazy Michael has definatly lost it. I should find a copy of his "acceptance speech" for the cake... the funniest part I hear is that he took the ornament and treated it like it was an award... of course it's just an honest mistake on his part though. Even though I think the guy is a little too high on himself these days.

Aerosmith: Behind the Music
Credit Yahoo News

Aerosmith's Behind The Music airs Sunday (see local TV guide for times). Guitarist Joe Perry told LAUNCH that the band's ups and downs make for "good TV."

"You've got to watch it to see it. I don't want to talk about it. It's kind of like...It goes too deep that I...I'll watch it once, and that's it. It makes for good TV, let's put it that way."

Aerosmith is currently on the road touring in support of its O Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits collection.

-- Darren Davis, New YorkI noticed that this actually aired LAST night, Sunday... but it is a very good documentary on the band. I didn't realize that the band had THAT many albums or that Steven Tyler had THAT many daughters. Boy was he a man-slut.

Malaysia fights Piracy
Credit CNet News

KUALA LUMPUR, Malyasia--Malaysian officials will begin a nationwide crackdown on the use of pirated software by businesses on Sunday, declaring war on the rampant use of illegally copied programs, the official Bernama news agency reported Saturday.
"Operation Genuine" will involve some 300 officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry as well as software experts from the Business Software Alliance (BSA), which represents U.S. software publishers, it said.

The International Intellectual Property Alliance estimates that U.S. trade losses due to the piracy of movies, music, software and publishing materials in Malaysia last year rose to $316.5 million from $140 million in 2000.

"We have declared an all-out war," said Mohamed Roslan Mahayudin, the ministry's Enforcement Division Deputy General.

"Previously we focused on companies, but this time around we will also take action against their senior management if it is found that they have failed to take appropriate measures to curb the use of pirated software by their companies," he said.

Bernama did not say how long the crackdown will last, but the authorities have periodically conducted raids on pirated entertainment compact discs and computer software in capital Kuala Lumpur.

In a sweep up and down the country last year, officials seized more than 2,000 street vendors of illegal CDs, VCDs and DVDs.

Bernama said companies and senior managers found guilty of using pirated software could be fined up to $2,631 or jailed for up to five years. They could also receive both punishments.

U.S. officials say Malaysia has good piracy laws but is not rigorously enforcing them.
Well it's a good thing. Cause piracy shouldn't be legal even in foreign countries. So I guess I can reiterate free mp3 trading=good.
Profit from copyrighted material=bad. Well that's about it on that matter.

Well that's all the music news I got for ya... here's some Other News I got for ya.

Don't eat Bat
Credit CNet News

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - A new study provides further evidence to support the link between a neurological disease among the indigenous population on the island of Guam and a cultural tradition of eating a type of bat.

In the 1940s, a neurological disease dubbed ALS-PDC mysteriously plagued the Chamorro population of Guam, producing symptoms that resemble amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer's disease ( news - web sites) and Parkinson's. People with ALS-PDC often exhibit signs of weakness, paralysis and wasting, inevitably resulting in death.

The condition was once a leading cause of death among Chamorro adults, occurring at rates 100 times the rate of ALS in the US. However, over time, the incidence of ALS-PDC decreased among the Chamorro just as mysteriously as it first appeared.

Recently, US researchers suggested that the changing prevalence of ALS-PDC may be linked to a rise and fall in the population of the flying fox, a type of bat considered a delicacy among the Chamorro people.

According to Drs. Paul Alan Cox of the National Tropical Botanical Gardens in Kauai, Hawaii, and Oliver Sacks of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, the flying fox consumes a lot of cycad seeds, which contain toxins known to cause neurological disorders.

Although the Chamorro knew the cycad seeds to be toxic and may not have snacked on them, Cox and Sacks proposed that the toxins could accumulate in the tissues of the flying fox, exposing the humans who consume them to damaging amounts of the toxins.

This theory jibes with the changes in the concentration of flying foxes on the island, which began to drop steadily in the 1940s due to their popularity as a delicacy, until they became classified as endangered.

Recently, Dr. Sandra Banack of California State University in Fullerton presented additional results linking the occurrence of ALS-PDC to the consumption of flying foxes at a joint meeting of the Ecological Society of America and the Society for Ecological Restoration in Tucson, Arizona.

Banack and her colleagues interviewed residents of two villages, asking them how often they consumed flying foxes. According to their report, men said they were more likely to eat the entire bat, while women often stuck with only the breast meat. This finding may help explain the marked gender differences in the incidence of ALS-PDC, which strikes men three times as often as women.

The researchers also learned that because the Chamorro people believe that eating the flying fox is so important, they are willing to risk fines or imprisonment to obtain the animals--imposed because the species is now considered rare.

In an interview with Reuters Health, Banack said that even though eating the bats is a deep-rooted tradition within Chamorro culture, traditions can change.

"ALS-PDC is a devastating disease," she said. "Some people are bound to hear the message and be willing to change their habits to protect their health."

Banack added that people should always use caution when eating bush meat. "Free-ranging animals--those that feed on wild plants in the environment--are eating a whole host of plant phytotoxins. Plants produce these toxins as a defense mechanism to stop animals from eating them," she said.

"We control the diet of domesticated animals and do not feed them foods high in toxins. When people eat bush meat they are eating the toxins consumed by that animal," Banack noted.

Don't sweat the Malaysia Stuff. I lived there two years. Every 6 months or so they do a sweep after annoucing it for a week or two before hand. Of course the grab on or two street venders. Then after they declare victory (signaling the all clear) the next day anything you want is available again. This just isn't for software, its for movies and music too. I can't even begin to count the times we watched the latest releases that were still on the screen in the US on a videotape we bought for $5.00 Made from Laserdisc.
