FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CD Baby artists establish TourBaby: A National Tour of the Best Local Music

NEW YORK - A new kind of tour is coming through Houston - a concert put on by the best independent musicians in the area. Although "TourBaby" will cross 44 cities in four months (including this Saturday's New York City opener at The Makor - 35 W 67th St.), each show will be comprised of the top local artists instead of a single touring lineup.

Why the unique approach? Hundreds of musicians are banding together to raise awareness of independent music: the music you don't hear on mainstream TV or radio. TourBaby aims to highlight top local bands and artists of all musical styles and genres, and to introduce these musicians to a broader cross-section of the communities.

"We're out to call attention to all the great music that's right under your nose in your local community," is how the organizers of TourBaby see it.

"TourBaby is an intimate connection between artist and fans," said founding member Dave Mann of Orlando, Florida. "It's a grassroots co-operative effort created entirely by musicians. Each TourBaby concert is organized by the artists in that local community."

TourBaby hits Houston on Friday, November 1st 2002 at Rhythm Room - 1815 Washington Ave..

The great performing artists from our area will be Guy Schwartz & The New Jack Hippies, E. P. Vallejo, Tin Henry, DubTex SoundSystem, Beryl Grady, The Buddhacrush, Secret Agent 8, True Audio Outland and Kool B, Opie Hendrix & Bluesguy Schwartz.

"These artists really bring out the many styles of what Houston music is all about," says the show's organizer, Guy Schwartz who will perform with two acts.

Tickets for this event are only $10. For information, directions, or to hear MP3s of every artist performing, go to www.tourbaby.com.

The idea for Tourbaby developed on an internet discussion group sponsored by Derek Sivers, founder of CD Baby, a popular online record store for independent artists.

TourBaby is sponsored by CDBaby and Disc Makers.

TOURBABY IS SIGNIFICANT

TourBaby is a significant, bellwether event in the current evolution -- perhaps better called revolution! -- in the music industry. As technology (ProTools, powerful home computers, synth upgrades, etc.) and the Internet have put the tools needed to produce and market the highest quality music into everyone's living room, garage or basement, the major labels' monopoly and system of "hitmaking" has begun to erode -- and, apparently, irreparably. TourBaby is independent music's first (need I say Baby?) step in its growing ability to have nationwide impact and significance -- its own equivalence of Lollapalooza or Lillith Fair. For the first time, independent music is organizing and operating on a national level, and, like the first step on the moon, it's just one step, but it signals the arrival of a whole new era in the music industry. A new player is on the field with the big boys, and it's all of us!

Well cool!!!!

There are lots of people out there who haven't heard indie music (or won't because of some dollar-infested marketing crap) and are in for a surprise!

We aint got the money, we aint got the kit.

BUT we have got the heart and soul of music, like everyone else ;) (Wink)

Thanks for the the kind words, Ethan here, the tourbaby organizer in Austin Texas.
I am way excited about this one, it has been very much like herding cats, but this thing is coming together beautifully. The Austin event is on Halloween and kicks off a three date stretch for us/True Audio Outland, The New Jack Hippies, and Rebecca Hart. Should be a ton o fun and tiring.
If you are in the area come and check it out October 31st at the red eyed fly. If not check out the online broadcast, earthlink.net has been a fabulous resource big thanks to Martin. Once again thanks for the positive feedback, very much appreciated.
