Press Release:

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 22, 2002--It's sleek, it's powerful, it has the capacity to download 4,800 songs, or 400 CDs, at lightning-quick speed -- and it's PC and Mac compatible. e.Digital Corporation (OTCBB:EDIG - News) today announced its new Odyssey 1000(TM) digital jukebox and data storage device, its premier digital audio player. Powered by e.Digital's MicroOS® 2.0, the Odyssey 1000 combines the best of e.Digital's digital audio technology into one stellar, feature-packed unit.

Jim Collier, President and COO of e.Digital, said, "The Odyssey 1000 sets the standard by which all other portable entertainment products will now be judged. It is the result of our first joint project with our strategic development partner Digitalway. It combines an elegant, world class industrial design from Digitalway's award-winning engineering team with e.Digital's state-of-the-art, patented audio technology. There is nothing else available that matches its elegant looks, full range of features, and cutting-edge Drag `n Rip(TM) technology."

The Odyssey 1000, which will be available to consumers this fall, boasts superb sound quality and outstanding battery life, with a minimum of 13 hours of playback time. The feature-rich Odyssey 1000 has a 20 Gigabyte hard drive for optimum MP3 and Windows Media(TM) WMA playback and doubles as a data storage unit for movies, spreadsheets, e-books, and more. Its stainless steel, sleek industrial design only enhances the aesthetic appeal of this digital audio powerhouse, which is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse.

The Odyssey 1000's high-speed USB 2.0 connection and remarkable ease of use make downloading and transferring music a breeze. With the Odyssey 1000's USB 2.0 connection, users can transfer an entire CD to their player in about 5 seconds. And e.Digital's Drag `n Rip technology enables users to transfer music in one easy step simply by dragging tracks directly from a CD directory onto their player's hard drive. Drag `n Rip optionally enables users to create a mirror library of music on their computer. The Odyssey 1000 also is compatible with Mac iTunes.

Another outstanding feature is the Odyssey 1000's voice navigation capabilities. The Odyssey 1000 uses e.Digital's VoiceNav(TM) user interface based on Lucent's speech recognition technology so users can navigate through their libraries of music simply by the power of their own voice. It also has an easy-to-use scroll wheel for effortless manual navigation. In addition, the Odyssey 1000 is a voice recorder that comes with a built-in microphone for hours of voice recording on its massive hard drive.

Collier added that, "This is a product that will have broad appeal to both Mac and PC users. It provides them with a full suite of features and advanced technology not currently available from any other product on the market. It also will be subscription enabled and fully compatible with our subscription content partners, soon to be announced. Its intuitive user interface and ease of navigation will appeal to all age groups. Anyone who likes music and books will love the Odyssey 1000."

Furthermore, the Odyssey 1000 comes with music preloaded by e.Digital's Broadband Entertainment Business Unit so users can immediately start enjoying music on their player. The Odyssey 1000 also has an FM tuner with 12 available station presets and 16 MB DRAM buffering for robust anti-skip protection and increased battery life.

The standard Odyssey 1000 package will include e.Digital Music Explorer(TM) 2.0 software for PC (featuring Drag `n Rip technology), carrying case with belt clip, an installation CD and manual, stereo earphones, USB 2.0 cable with standard and mini connectors, a universal DC adaptor/battery charger, and RCA audio cable for home stereo connection..

Damn, ya know what.. that is one hot lookin player :D (Big Grin) And whats the price on this thing?? Oh this is so gonna kick the iPod's a$$
Hell, this thing FINALLY have some type of playlist support which was my very very big beef with the Treo 10. That and a remote control with voice nav? Perhaps lack of dough of not gettin Nomad 3 immediately turned out for the better. If the sound really have improved from the treo 10 then I'll be definately be on this thing like a guy bunny on gurl wabbit :D (Big Grin) Also glad i didn't shell out dough for firewire card, now i can get usb 2.0 :D (Big Grin)

THE PRICE SOMEONE??

ooh yeah, FIRST POST BABY!!! :D (Big Grin)

I know, the price WOULD be helpful ;) (Wink) Prolly gonna be steep, cause this baby is SWEET. Definitely going to challenge the new big PC-iPod for supremacy.

So you can store spreadsheets, movies, eBooks and other kinds of files huh? On a USB2.0 connection, I might get one to be a bulk data transferer as WELL as a music player. Thumbs up so far on this one!

Sweet...

I'm not usually one to congratulate an obvious rip-off of another product, but I think e.Digital pulled it off successfully here. If only someone could fix the auto-linking bug in the dmusic.com script that highlights e.Digital!

ODYSSEY PRICE will be 349.00 with a 50 dollar rebate So final price should be 299.00

Just My Honest Opinion...

And more players coming.

I also have a big problem with this even though Alric is annoying at times
harping the praises of the ipod on all mp3 player forums he can find. I do
however agree with him here..odd huh?

WMA Digital Rights Management (DRM) support

Hey witching, you've been to the RioRiot and funmp3players forums?

After some thought I think what they mean by WMA Digital Rights Management (DRM) support is that you will be able to download WMA encoded songs from your PC to your Oddyssey, which otherwise you wouldn't be able to do.

However, I still have a problem with it because it promotes A form of DRM.

ALRIC here is a link showing apple did not even make the I-POD. Plus edig's player is made by DIGITAL WAY!!! Lets play....
http://www.designchain.com/coverstory.asp?issue=summer02

DRM'S WILL BE AN ISSUE FOR ALL OF US. At least edig's
players are upgradeable and not using transcoding and able to handle all CODECS & DRM'S..

Know what you own!!!

It doesn't matter who manufactures it. Its whoever owns the trademark.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT BATMAN!

THaat LOOKS SWEEET!!

I agree though that it looks great, will have to wait to see if it is disabled though. Protecting the consumer from the music he/or she has purchased seems to be a standard with hard drive players for some reason.

Wait wait wait wait... the DRM, will that put up any kind, err let me rephrase that.. will that FORCE restrictions onto the player as far as transfering songs back n forth from the player to pc and onto another pc or is that a feature you can turn on and off?? I'm assuming the later hence my initial praises of this thing. And for 350 it is a definate iPod killer. But yo the iPod like scroll whell is really really, damn I'm scratching my plans for Nomad 3 and deal with my rio volt just a little bit longer ;) (Wink). Hey packers or somebody 3 questions though...

1. info on s/n ratio as of yet?
2. read about remote control slot in player... is the remote separate and if so how much?
3. any exact or specific date of release (nice goin back to school present ;) (Wink))?

well, iPod got nuttin on this and the only thing Nomad 3 have is optical recording. If the s/n ratio is improved from treo 10, apple don't sue out of complete jeliousy from fear of this player, and the DRM doesn't force anything onto people (like i can turn it off the same way I turn it off when i rip some cd's to wma's in windows media because it's a very shitty no brainer option) then this will be a definate no brainer ;) (Wink).

MTBALOL If it allows for drag & rip to me the drm does
not effect copying of music. The DRM will be for when edig allows music subcription coping from there website. JMHO More to follow on this at a later time.

Your 2 other questions I have sent to edig, I will let you know what they tell me. Time frame my opinion right after apples release there 3 players that are able to copy from pc's...

1 day edig plans on being a 1 stop shop for software
hardware firmware content audio video telematics & books. This is all my opinion but read info from the
edig website and listen to the cc's...

If they succeed watch out...

IntermediateThaCoyote

Blah, who uses WMA btw! Just ban these WMA's and you won't trouble WMA DRM. I think this will be the first kick-ass player on which I won't wait for reviews before buying it! Damn, first post in 2 monts I guess!!! Hope you folks didn't forget about me though ;) (Wink) Blah, it's hard to type the right characters when you're kind'a drunk ;) (Wink) Greetz!
DMemberaeroe

the only other player (toshiba gigabeat/mobilphile) that uses the DRM has another surprise:
"Now the bad news: the device appears to use some form of DRM. If you put a standard MP3 or WMA file on the device using your PC's OS, the device won't recognize it as playable. Instead, you have to use the Toshiba Audio Application to move music files to the device. This program appends a .SAT (Secure Audio Toshiba?) extension to the file. If you just add the .SAT extension yourself, the Gigabeat recognizes the file as a music file, but won't play it."
