Those lazy asses over at Winamp have innovated a new way to slack off even more, by offering up an Internship opportunity at Nullsoft HQ for the summer.
Below are the actual job "responsibilities" required of the internship position as written by Jonathan "Whipping Masta" Ward: "Everyone likes to work. We are giving you the opportunity to work for us for free. But just because you aren't getting paid doesn't mean that it won't be like a real job. We promise you will have long hours doing all the tedious stuff that we Nullsofters hate to do. Come be the envy of all your enemies. Comes wrestle llamas all day long. Hell, you can even do my job. Applicant must be able to work in our San Francisco Office (sorry). HTML/JHTML/JSP experience a must (Java is a plus). A familiarization with Photoshop is a good thing. Any other graphic design experience is a plus."
What you need to earn your keep:
- Java experience a plus
- HTML/JHTML programming required (duh!)
- Mad Phat Photoshop skillz is all good
- Having a keen eye for web design would be really nice
- Code and design samples requested
- A willingness to work for little to no reward at all (ok fine, it will look great on a resume)
If you think you got what it takes to deal with the madness that is working for Nullsoft as their lackey, then please send your resume to jonathan@winamp.com
If you actually are looking to make money while you work, there are a few spots open in the Quality Assurance department. Peep the jobs page for the full information on this and all future Nullsoft job opportunities kiddies.

Well, like they mentioned, internships look really good on a resume. You have the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge in the field you're interning and just in the industry itself. It's a good way to ease into something. The non-pay does suck, but it is what you make of it.

I would do it, but I don't live in San Fran. Oh yeah, and cause I have rent due and occassionally I get hungry and have to buy food. Otherwise I would love to web design for free for AOL. Uh-huh. Sure would. Cause AOL is such a great company offering great services.
Wait, that's AOL Nullsoft, which is wholly owned by AOL Time Warner, which ALSO wholly owns WARNER BROTHERS MUSIC.
Maybe you can help design webpages begging us to stop pirating. Wont that be fun??

hehehe
at least when i worked for free this last semester i got 2 high school credits and i didn't have to do ANYTHING except sit at a computer and pretend I was working, somehow i managed to make my supervisor think i was always working my ass off, it's a little skill i picked up...
every day do a little bit of work, but don't show or let him know that you've done that little bit of work, tell him you're researching or some shit, then after like 3-4 days, all the little bit of work will build up to be a lot of work, then you show him all that stuff, he thinks you did that all that day, and thinks that's how you work everyday, and gives you an A+ on your co-op course and your average doesn't suck as much

The concept of interning needs to be better clarified to those who do not understand it obviously..
It's call proving your worth.. exactly how I started working here even chumps.

Even here, Mike?? How 'bout especially here.
I think interning is also called working for free. Just another way for whatever particular industry to get free production from people who hope to one day get paid for their efforts. ..and isn't it amazing that the more prosperous the industry, the more people there are willing to intern (e.g., medical, legal, political, et al)? Poor sacrificial wh0res. ..Hopefully, one day they'll make lotsa moulah so that somebody can wh0re for them.
Just for the record, Winamp is firmly in my top 5 of all-time favorite freeware apps, and I wouldn't hear of playin' back my mp3's on anything else. That bein' said, I think the tongue-in-cheek arrogance of the above employment advert takes a bit of thrust. ..but hey, it'll look good on someone's resumé.

Indentured servitude? At least the slaves got to take a cruise!
Methinks someone's touchy we are poking fun at internships
I did PLENTY of years of 'internship'. My parents had me do all sorts of nonsense around their house in my teen years, under the "parental room and board clause" No thanks, I'll take a paycheck now
Remember your word derivatives, 'intern', as in being interred at a concentration camp mebbe ?
