I'm struggling with the catch 22 of campaigns like this...
The RIAA screws us by taking away our rights by successfully lobbying for restrictive legislation. The argument they use is, "record sales down=p2p/consumers/streaming radio - bad".
Consumers get fed up and say, "fuck you RIAA we're not going to buy any more of your overpriced crap" (not much of a loss IMO). This in turn continues the downward trend of sales and strengthens their argument which leads to more restrictions...
It seems that we the consumers get screwed either way...
Anyone see a way out?

Ah yes, grilling out back in my anti-RIAA apron
As for the way out, I think it's through.
We have to break them down. They can rant about dropping sales, but once this loss is actually IMPACTING them financially, they will have to do something new. I think we can only turn up the fire now. It's the only weapon we have as consumers. Grab an apron.

I wear my shirt constantly as I parade in front of NARAS headquarters in LA!
We must continue the resistence to their hegemonic oppression of our cultural freedoms!! Show your support by donning the NO RIAA symbol!

This was posted today at yahoo.com about the recording pleaing with the public to stop downloading music for free...thought I'd pass this along and wonder for myself.
One problem is the price gouging I for one like many others cannot afford these ridiculous prices.

Just to make a clear point if I do hear something I like I buy it. I don't just download whole albums and burn the suckers. Besides I have other things I use them for anyway.
Just a thought.

What a funny article, crzferrero. I wonder why the recording idustry would plea to stop downloading. Do they think people are going to say "Gee I better stop because they say so"?
Well, anyway, the situation now is different than it ever was before because each Gnutella user can share files with millions of people around the world. Furthermore, CDs are not the prefered technology for the future.

Actually the origianl boycott was for one month. Starting August 1, 2000, thru August 31, 2000. It was calculated in a month that there were no big releases to really help drive the sales down. In Sept 2000 there were about 5 or 6 huge releases Backdoor err.. Backstreet Boys, Eminem, Britney I think, and maybe a Madonna if memory serves. By having the orig boycott in an "off month" we were able to gain support from those who would go out in Sept and buy anyway. Af few months later we callled for the boycott again and the logo hasn't been changed. I'll see what I can get done.....

OK FOLKS: Changed the mugs a bit with NO RIAA logo, added a flying disc (similar to a frisbee).

If you guys would be able to print real ultimate discs (discraft discs), I would be happy to spread it along whenever I go on tournaments to other colleges, and I'm sure other people who play ultimate would buy the discs. They're kinda expensive though (I think), so I don't know how economical that would be.

Not to blatantly plug, but the best Anti-RIAA shirt I've found is the devil horns design "RIAA=EVIL" shirt from ANGRYSHIRTS.COM.
Check it out my fellow disaffected music fans.
