Metallica; hurry the F-Up and Play a song
Credit Mtv News
Metallica have yet to settle on a Ramones cover to lend to a forthcoming tribute LP to the pioneering punks; perhaps "I Can't Make It on Time" would be an apt selection.
A contribution from the heavy-metal stalwarts is all that co-producer Rob Zombie is waiting on to sign off on the tracks for We're a Happy Family, which he hopes will hit stores in August.
"It's almost done. We're just waiting for Metallica to finish their song," Zombie said while walking the red carpet Saturday at the MTV Movie Awards.
Metallica's delay is not for lack of enthusiasm. After being invited to appear on the LP by Johnny Ramone, the album's other co-producer, Metallica hit the studio and played around with eight Ramones songs, according to the band's Web site. They've since narrowed the pool down by half and are trying to settle on a single selection. More for your pleasure
Jeez by the time Metallica gets done with their song Johnny Ramone will be dead as well. Hurry the F-Up you're covering a song. It doesn't matter which one your cover it'll be good cause that IS what you are best at; Metal-Licka. Do these guys do anything anymore?
Jimmy Buffet a Crash hit on Sign
Credit Yahoo News
Singer Jimmy Buffett flew his biplane into a runway sign at Palm Beach International Airport over the weekend, but was not hurt, officials said Tuesday.
The Federal Aviation Administration had originally said a Buffett employee was at the controls of the Boeing Stearman when it collided with the sign on Saturday afternoon. The FAA told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that the employee called the airport tower, so controllers thought the employee was the pilot.
FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane was pushed off the runway by a wind gust. Buffett, who owns a home in the Town of Palm Beach, was arriving from Key West.
The accident won't be investigated, she said.
Buffett's publicist could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
The 55-year-old singer is best known for his 1977 hit "Margaritaville" and his legion of loyal fans known as Parrotheads.
Heh, it looks like Mr. Buffet took a trip down to Margaritaville before flying, glad he's ok, that song was the BOMB! Ok not really but it's still a good song to party to. Yeah, why do so many people in the entertainment business like to fly plains? It's like they all have a death wish.
Kelly OZZY to record album
Credit Mtv News
Performing at Saturday's taping of the MTV Movie Awards was "one of the worst feelings ever" for Kelly Osbourne, but stage fright won't slow down her burgeoning music career.
The pink-haired, 17-year-old starlet of "The Osbournes" revealed backstage after her live singing debut that she is scheduled to spend July and August in a New York studio recording a full-length album.
Ozzy's daughter said she'll work with producer Rick Wake, whose résumé includes music by Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, but she offered few other details. Kelly talks about her album.
Sweet, I'll actually check that album out. It looks pretty sweet. Kelly's a little cutie. Kinda chubby but she's just adorable looking. If you're trendy like me you'll watch her at the Mtv Awards this weekend. I will probably have to work so you guys watch it and tell me about it. At least she speaks better english than her father.
CDDB and Real team up
Credit CNet news
RealNetworks said Tuesday that it would incorporate song-recognition technology from Gracenote into its media player, renewing a deal between the two companies.
The deal extends RealNetworks' license so it can include Gracenote's software in its RealOne Player for devices ranging from car stereos to digital jukeboxes. Gracenote's software, dubbed CDDB, recognizes songs listed on CDs and allows applications to display their titles as well as album art and reviews, music news, biographies, and tour information.
For Gracenote, the deal underscores its latest effort to reach consumers everywhere. The Berkeley, Calif.-based company is aiming to place its service into every home, MP3 device or CD player in the next five years. So far, Gracenote's services have been offered in products such as Pioneer's car stereo, Compaq Computer's iPaq, and MP3 jukeboxes from Hewlett-Packard and Kenwood.
Gracenote, however, faces daunting challenges in its goal of offering its service offline. Some analysts said people may have limited interest in the company's services, since many are more accustomed to listening to music via their electronic devices rather than sifting through artist or music information on a screen.
Still, Gracenote has been successful in signing up significant partners such as RealNetworks and music services provider MusicMatch. With Tuesday's announcement, RealNetworks will be able to offer Gracenote's technology to third-party developers and distribute Gracenote's recognition service and database in electronics devices. Good stuff. RealONE blows erect monkeys in heat but I think CDDB is all that and a phat brownie. So I'll report it. Surprisingly RealONE is still going strong after all these months. I quite surprised considering how bad it is for P2P sharing. But I guess their other features are well recieved. Cool for Real.
Rocking out to the "Queen"
Credit Yahoo News
Hundreds of thousands of people cheered wildly and waved flags in a massive display of love and loyalty Tuesday as Queen Elizabeth II (news - web sites) rode through London in a golden carriage to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her reign...
...From start to finish Monday night, the "Party at the Palace" concert — watched by more than 12,000 ticket holders in the grounds of Buckingham Palace — was a moving display of affection for the royal family.
The event began with Queen guitarist Brian May, standing on the palace roof and playing a solo performance of "God Save the Queen," while huge crowds of fans waved the Union Jack flag in the plaza below the palace.
Hours later, the concert, which was broadcast nationwide, ended with Sir Paul McCartney singing a medley of Beatles' classics, such as "All You Need Is Love," "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Hey Jude."
Former Queen member Brian May performed the Sex Pistols version of "God Save the Queen" that's pretty damn funny. That song was originally written to protest the Queen and was played on a boat right outside the Palace. I wonder how she felt. Personally I wish Brian would have performed "Fat Bottomed Girls". It'd be funnier. Of course he he doesn't sound a thing like Freddy Mercury... oh well.
Well that's about does it for the musical type news. Lets bring you other stuff to look at and wrap this sucker up shall we?
Secure AIM
Credit CNet news
AOL Time Warner runs two of the world's largest instant messaging services, but it may be in danger of squandering its lead in the race to sell this hot Internet technology to corporations.
Although consumers have flocked to instant messaging by the millions, business customers have remained wary; some have even banned it over security concerns. Still, companies represent one of the most lucrative markets for the technology. Most consumer services are offered for free, but corporations appear willing to pay for IM services that offer the ability to encrypt messages and authenticate the identity of its users, among other things.
AOL plans to release a corporate version of its AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) product, dubbed "Enterprise AIM," by summer. Like Yahoo--one of AOL's chief rivals in the consumer IM market--it will face competitors that have already established beachheads on corporate shores. Pretty interesting stuff, go and read more, there's a lot
J.Lo cashes in on SuperHero Craze
Credit Yahoo News
Trouble in the Bat Cave? Feeling uptight over kryptonite? Going through a secret-identify crisis? Worried that you are an exhibitionist because you enjoy stripping off your street clothes in a public phone booth?
No problem. Dr. J Lo is in.
Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez plans to star as a psychologist for superheroes in an upcoming film comedy titled "Shrink," which she will also help produce for Columbia Pictures, the studio said on Tuesday.
Based on an Internet character created by former Marvel Comics illustrator Rob Liefeld, "Shrink" marks the first film project under Lopez's new production deal with Columbia, a unit of Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp, a studio spokesman said.
The material was optioned as Columbia basks in the record-shattering box-office success of a more traditional superhero adventure, "Spider-Man," the latest in a new wave of crime fighters in tights leaping off the pages of comic books and onto the screen.
"Shrink" takes a more tongue-in-cheek approach to the genre, with Lopez playing a former superhero who hangs up her cape for a new career as a counselor catering to the psychologically troubled Supermen and Wonder Women of the world. But things get complicated when she finds herself caught in a love triangle.
Columbia also plans to include a supporting cast of readily familiar superheroes from the pages of real comic books, in the way that last year's computer-animated storybook satire "Shrek" borrowed recognizable characters from popular fairy tales.
A studio spokesman described the project as in its infancy, with no script and with no director or other talent yet attached.
"Spider-Man" has grossed more than $353 million so far domestically, proving again the muscular box-office potential of films based on comic crime fighters. But the last superhero spoof from a major studio, Universal Pictures' 1999 ensemble comedy "Mystery Men," was a commercial dud. Universal is a unit of Vivendi Universal SA .
Still, David Guillod, who is producing "Shrink" with Lopez, Liefeld and others, told Daily Variety they see "gigantic franchise" potential in the project.
Lopez, 32, is currently starring in the Columbia Pictures thriller "Enough," about a young mother fighting back against her abusive husband.
mp4 a go with Quicktime
Credit Cnet News
The computer maker took the unusual step of releasing the software in absence of a final licensing agreement with MPEG LA, a licensing body representing 18 patent holders that have claims on underlying MPEG-4 technology, a next-generation compression format for video and audio.
"The licensing stuff is getting worked out," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in an interview Tuesday. Every 'i' is not dotted and every 't' is not crossed, but it's getting there. I have a lot of confidence it will. This is too important not to get worked out."
Jobs said he believed the MPEG-4 licensing issues "will be worked out" by the time QuickTime 6 is officially released later this summer.
Jobs emphasized that MPEG-4 would be vital to more broadly opening up streaming of audio or video on the Web and giving consumers more choice. Right now, much of the streaming is tied to proprietary codecs used by Apple, RealNetworks or Microsoft.
"MPEG-2 still delivers the best video quality around," Jobs said. "It is the gold standard. It is the world standard...The same group that created MPEG-2, created MPEG-4, which is the next, new international standard for digital video, for streaming, and for other uses. It delivers video quality as good as MPEG-2 at about a third less the bit rate." Read More about Quicktime 6
Secure AIM sounds cool. I'd want to have a more secure form of AIM to use. I wonder if we could implement an AIM like feature onto DMusic... That would be sweet. It would also make trading music possible too. It'd be a True P2P trading program. Wow... That's a good idea... I'll have to run this by that good looking boss of mine. ;) (any excuse to talk to her)
Wow crazy, J.Lo is working with a Rob Liefield character. Rob is a founding father of Image comics, the world's 3rd largest comic publishing company. He's bombed 2 other companies of his own after getting booted out of Image. The guy is pretty good though. You know that Kevin Smith movie was right. After X-Men and now Spiderman, Hollywood is totally eating up on the Comic Book franchise. Pretty cool.
Eh, I have had little use of mp4 and very little use of Quicktime. I just felt it was newsworthy. What do you think? I wish it was easier to encode with mp4 and DIVX.
Yeah it's late and I'm out.

Metallica needs to work on making their own music better instead of worrying so much about a cover song. Almost all Ramones songs are just simple power chords and very easy to play anyway.

The Instant Messenger idea is copyrighted and AOL bought it for $407 million in 1998 from two Israeli guys (Mirabilis) "Nobody's going to become a zillionaire today making an ICQ work-alike."-(catchtoday.com- Rafe Needleman).

It wasn't the Pistols version! It was the National Anthem "God save the Queen"! The Pistols song would have been better though
Ozzy and Tony Iommi were on as well doing Paranoid which was good to watch.

well what about Yahoo messanger and MSN messanger? They're just like AOL's could we do a simplified one here? Members only. It'd bring a LOT more communitism to the site. It'd be a good way to really "trade" music as well.
Eh I was listening to the radio earlier yesterday and the ill-informed DJ said it was the Sex Pistols version. I doubt it too.
Did anyone get a free slushy?

The concert was ecxellent. Queen played, although the guys who sung -except for Roger and Brian- were not that good. Eric Clapton and Phil Collin's performance were astonishing too.

Just heard that Dee Dee Ramone has died of an apparent drug overdose. I wish these fucking rock stars would realize all that they have going for them. Now friends, family, and fans have to deal with the loss of a loved one, because he was so selfish that he put a drug that proved to be dangerous before the people that loved him. You would think that musicians, or anybody for that matter would realize what the hell they are doing when they see this kind of thing happen. No matter how famous you are, you are not invincible. But noooo, they just keep killing themselves off. If you want to get high, smoke a joint or something. Nobody in the history of mankind has overdosed on Marijuana!! Stay away from needles and straws dumb asses!!
