mp3 Player for the Gameboy and GBA
Posted by AdminMrXero in on May 2, 2002 at 8:20 PM

It's something that I had heard about 8 months ago and I was really hoping that it would happen and now it has check out the mp3 player add-ons for the Gameboy and GBA!
From GameSpot:
A new peripheral for the Game Boy Advance will let users play MP3s.

Kemco has announced that it's working on an MP3 player for the Game Boy Advance. The GBA MP3 Player features a portable music player capability while also allowing for standard Game Boy Advance game functionality. The MP3 Player should allow for simple recording and music playback with output via headphones or the GBA's built-in speakers. A voice delete function and a built-in microphone will also be included, implying that the MP3 player has a karaoke function out of the box.

More informations as it is released, I'm very excited to finally have mp3 Capibilities on my GameBoy Advance!

Now I'm sure all of you old GameBoy and GameBoy Color owners don't want to be left out, so...

Dataplay has on their website a tiny bit of information about a DPD player that would work for all the incarnations of the GameBoy. It looks pretty cool and from the text it might be able to burn DPDs as well. But it doesn't actually say.
Here's all the info I could find on that:

This is SWEET

-Play music with your Nintendo GameBoy
-Download and play Digital Music
-Easy-to-Operate “CD-Like” interface
-Music Downloads available online

heh, nice idea... much better to have a portable game system converted into a music player instead of portable sound system converted into a crappy game player (iRiver imp250 ;) (Wink)).

ok one problem...who wants to listen to MP3's on a what 16bit sound?

true but the GBA has a decent sound processor. No idea of the specs but it generates some good sound. Maybe the player has it's own audio processor and you plug the headphone into the cartridge? Then it won't be 16bit sound now will it? Just a thought.

I agree, ATARI!! Don't you wish sometimes we stayed back in time with Atari 2600 or Vic20, or Commodore 64... Coding games in BASIC back in the day, got all those "Pirate's Cove" style things...

Man, I miss my Amiga 500, EasyMidas. Those were the days.

I love MP3 players, this one sounds interesting. I bought a Samsung Yepp, Phillips 103 (small and only plays the 3 inch discs), Rio Volt. I even bought a Sony MD player (one to one recording stinks as does ATRAC3 compression).

So far the best unit for me is the Rio Volt SP100. Great sound with headphones or even through my Saturn sound system (I got the premium audio feature, basically they just added a crappy premium equalizer to enhance the crappy premium speakers at a premium price);) (Wink)Actually it does not sound that bad.

I may have to check out the GBA MP3 player.
