FINALLY! It doesn't crash once an hour. I
was really ready to give up on limewire and
gnutella, and was moving on to giFT.
Although, it wasn't stable at all until I
installed java 1.4. Now I have some weird
problem where it won't open limewire under
X-Windows without me su'ing to a different
user other than the one running X, or just
even su -l to the same user. Not a big
problem though, and I can live with it for
now.
This version also does an awesome job of
getting the files you search for and
download. For about 3-6 months before the
last 2 versions, I barely ever ended up
getting the files I tried to download. It
would alwasy end up saying couldn't
download... almost right away. Now I get
all of the files I download, and much faster
since it will download from multiple hosts,
asigning a chuck to each host.
I do like the layout of the older versions
better. I am not a big fan of the new
search tab, I liked the horizontal stacking.
Older versions also gave more freedom to
play with connections. Like if I said keep
up 6 connections it would keep up 6 and not
always stay at 3 no matter what you set the
number to. WTF??? Also it alows you to
play with and get more discovered hosts.
Where did everyone go? I don't know if it
is just because I can't play with the
connections as much or what, but there are
SIGNIFICANTLY less total hosts all the time.
Like right now I am looking at 424 total
hosts, and 255,000 mb of files. Most I got
up to last night was 700 something. This is
the first time I have been able to run
limewire for more than an hour with out
crashing in years (literally). When I used
to leave my connection up, I would get
thousands of hosts, and terabytes of data
available. So did we lose lots of people to
KAAZA or what?
Unfortunetly, right now I cannot not run
KAAZA or any others on the FT network, since
they have changed their crypto, and now the
linux client giFT cannot connect anymore.
Luckily giFT has created its own network,
and a modular client. The network will be
mostly linux users for a while until a
windows client comes out, and that obviously
limts the network, since few people run
linux. Hopefully giFT will someday have
another KAAZA module, and maybe a gnutella
module, so I can stop using multiple
clients.
but for now, it is all limewire 2.3.3, until
next week when a new version comes out
peace,
