It's what you've been waiting for ... the next DMusic Member Profile! LanZer has been kind enough to open up and share his thoughts on everything from the music industry, to cartoons, to writing the title song from Revenge of the Nerds. So lets get things started: [Heidi] OK, LanZer before we begin with the tough stuff go ahead and state your name and anything else you'd like to say about yourself. [LanZer] I am Gerhard HELMUT, born in Austria, been in the states for 25 years.... [LanZer] Rock N Roller.... [Heidi] Wow, Rock n' Roller, so you're a big music fan? [LanZer] I wrote the title song for Revenge of the Nerds...my claim to fame... [LanZer] :) [Heidi] Are you joking? [LanZer] No I’m not [LanZer] I have been in this biz for a long time... [Heidi] Wow! I'm interviewing a celebrity and I didn't even know it. [LanZer] When I landed Revenge of the Nerds, I quit...didn’t want to make a living writing that kind of music... [LanZer] So I went into film... [LanZer] became a director of photography, did some directing, had a production co. in Vienna Austria... [LanZer] got tired of that and went back in music [Heidi] So you're the type of person who works on things because you love it and not for the money. [LanZer] decided I need to do a CD MY WAY...and so I did. [LanZer] It’s called: forget the crap...lets Rock N Roll [Heidi] Awesome. [LanZer] you may say that..... [LanZer] you know I have found that money will create itself around you...if u are doing things... [LanZer] kind of u always get what u need.. [Heidi] I think it's great when people do things that they love just because of that; they love it. [LanZer] I think it’s a decision one makes...to live like that.... [LanZer] but to me it’s also the Rock N Roll lifestyle... [LanZer] that’s what R&Rollers do.... [LanZer] makes for better songwriting. if u live like that...and u never run out of topics either... [LanZer] :) [Heidi] So true. [Heidi] You've been a DMusic member for less than a month, but you've been more than willing to participate with this DMusic Member Profile. What do you like about the DMusic community that made you want to become involved? [LanZer] Well, I’m kind of testing the waters right now.... [LanZer] dmusic is in a class by itself...and I do like that.... [LanZer] Im parked at 2 other sites and Im giving my music away for free.... [LanZer] but I do hope this will change soon...because we all need money to pay the rent and we have to eat... [LanZer] right now I’m looking to get exposure with the hope to land a deal with an independent label... [LanZer] when I found dmusic it looked like a kewl place to hang my hat, to direct ppl to the site [Heidi] It sounds like you've got it all figured out. [LanZer] hehe well, I do have a plan....but then I do view myself as a pro...and pro`s have plans.. [Heidi] When you're not working on your music, what else do you enjoy? [LanZer] not a thing... [LanZer] I really don’t do anything else... [Heidi] So you're a focused on one type thing kind of guy? [LanZer] well maybe driving through the desert at high speed....that’s my hobby....sort of [Heidi] Very interesting. [LanZer] yes, my life evolves around music.. [LanZer] from morning to nite... [LanZer] and I have found, it can’t be any other way... [LanZer] this is not a 9-5 job [LanZer] it’s a lifestyle [LanZer] right now I’m busy marketing the CD [LanZer] that takes a lot of time and I wish I had a manager that could handle that for me.. [Heidi] I know that promotion and marketing take up a large amount of time so I can see how you're in "Music Mode" 24/7. [LanZer] hope to get one soon...because this is not my line of work [LanZer] I like writing and recording and playing better [LanZer] but I’m sure I will find a manager I always had management in the past.... [LanZer] It’s the only way to fly [Heidi] OK ... so I know you LOVE music and don't have too many other hobbies. But, I KNOW you eat food, because everyone has to eat. Tell me some of your favorite foods or places to eat. [Heidi] I'm sure you Rock n' Rollers have pretty good taste. [LanZer] hehe well honestly I almost eat everything..with few exceptions... [LanZer] Like when I was in China I made a few exceptions... [LanZer] :) [Heidi] Haha, ok. [LanZer] escargot and steak tartar.... [LanZer] that’s a Rock n Roll diet... [Heidi] I've learned so much from you already and it keeps getting better. [LanZer] wash it down with some Heineken :mug: and there u go [LanZer] :) [Heidi] Yes, it's official now. You are a true musician. You've mentioned beer. [LanZer] hehe [LanZer] I even wrote a song about Beer... [LanZer] it’s in dmusic, in the bin [Heidi] We'll have to look into that then ;) [Heidi] Say you're at home ... resting, taking a much needed break from writing and recording ... and Revenge of the Nerds comes on. Do you change the channel? [LanZer] No, I like that song, it’s goofy but I like it... [LanZer] it’s just that I don’t want to write music like this anymore... [LanZer] The song is ok..and I have gotten royalty payments ever since it came out [LanZer] it’s amazing... [Heidi] Do you have any advice for up and comers who want to make it in the music world? [LanZer] Id say: stick to it and keep getting better at it..eventually it will happen for you... [LanZer] because it does happen for everybody in its own way.. [Heidi] Now we're going to switch gears and I'm going to ask few questions and you just answer what pops in your head first. Hehe. This will help our readers learn more about you. :) [Heidi] Ready? [LanZer] Oh Boy u sure u wanna? [LanZer] shoot [Heidi] Haha, we'll start off slow. [Heidi] Favorite color? [LanZer] black [LanZer] I know that's no color but its black for me [Heidi] Best movie of all time? [LanZer] citizen Kane [Heidi] Favorite bands/musicians? [LanZer] Stones...the absolute best Rock N Roll Band ever. period [Heidi] What happened to the dinosaurs? [LanZer] they couldn’t get no Rock N Roll and vanished [Heidi] Haha! :D Good one. [Heidi] Do you believe Atlantis ever existed? (The underwater city.) [LanZer] yes, I had a condo there... [Heidi] Wow, I'm looking for a place ... is it expensive? [LanZer] Now it’s cheap... [Heidi] Because it has vanished and you can't get back? [LanZer] well it’s under water... [Heidi] Yea, I can see how that would lower property value. [Heidi] Name three cartoons you watched when you were little. [LanZer] I’m still watching cartoons... [Heidi] Good! Name three you like. [LanZer] it’s about the only thing I do watch on TV [LanZer] lets see...daffy duck, he’s kewl [LanZer] space ghost..he's insane [LanZer] Betty Boop? did I spell that right? [Heidi] Yup, seems good to me. [LanZer] she’s an ok girl in my book... [LanZer] maybe becouse I like garters on a gal.... [LanZer] :eek: [Heidi] That would make sense. [LanZer] :0 [LanZer] are we going for a novel here? [LanZer] :) [Heidi] Nope, we're almost done! And I know everyone will enjoy reading your responses. [Heidi] Anything you'd like to say before we finish? About music, cartoons, or anything else? [LanZer] well, music is going through a revolutionary phase right now. The Independent movement will be successful, till we all get swallowed up by the big guys again...and so the rhythm continues.... [LanZer] I think what happens now is very healthy for musicians... [LanZer] it gives us a chance to just do what we do best and don’t care so much if it sells.. [LanZer] because of this there will be more new stuff for all of us to listen to. I also see lots of new small labels starting up.... [LanZer] and the internet will become the place to go if u are looking for new genres of music. I like that a lot.
