DMusic Member Profile: inertia
Posted by IntermediateHeidi Chambers in on February 20, 2002 at 1:45 PM

In order to promote that often elusive feeling of "community" ... I have conducted another DMusic Member Profile. This time, with our own inertia aka Brent. Find out what makes this man tick and what his job is here at DMusic.

By the way, if you would like to be the next member profiled ... please just send me a note and we'll see what we can do. ;)

So lets get things started:

[Heidi] OK ... so inertia, you're the new guy on staff at DMusic. Want to introduce yourself and explain what exactly you do?

[inertia] Sure... My names Brent, also known as inertia. Like you said, I'm the new guy, for about 2 weeks now. I mostly work with spyed, symonx, and bolt squishing bugs, adding new features, etc.

[Heidi] Squishing bugs? Sounds kinda messy. Hehe.

[Heidi] You've been a member of DMusic for over a year and half, do you remember how you first found the site?

[inertia] I've been a member for a year and a half, but I've actually been around for much much longer. Spyed and I are pretty sure I've been around longer than any other staff member (excludingspyed of course). I've been visiting the site on a "regular basis" since at least 1997.

[inertia] I'm not sure exactly how I found the site. It may have been through a link from the Outer Limits, but... who can remember that from way back when.

[Heidi] Wow, that's back from the old skool.

[inertia] yup.

[Heidi] By the way, where'd you get your nick from?

[inertia] Back from my BBS days (probably from around 1994 or so?). Thought it was a cool looking/sounding word. No deeper reason beyond that. Heh.

[Heidi] Works for me.

[inertia] I was also a bit of a physics freak in highschool.

[Heidi] Even though you and I haven't known each other for too long, I feel we are pretty close. After all, we do hang out together in #dmusic for hours upon hours. Plus, we even play Yahoo! Pool together...

[inertia] Of course. :)

[Heidi] So that leads to the question, "Who is better at pool? Simon or me?"

[Heidi] Be honest now.

[inertia] Well, I've beaten symonx a few times, and only beaten you once... so...

[inertia] ;)

[Heidi] Good answer, you're a good man.

[inertia] Although, I'm not sure any of us have bragging rights. For the record.

[inertia] Especially not after the whooping symonx and I took at the hands of Bolt the other night.

[Heidi] Sadly, this is probably true.

[inertia] heh

[Heidi] So when you're not squishing bugs at DMusic or playing online pool, what do you do in your free time?

[inertia] Well, now that winter has set in upon us in Montreal (wee :canada:!), the whole outdoor realm has really shutdown. I went snowboarding for the first time a few weeks ago. That was athoroughly um... painfull experience. heh. I try to get out as much as I can now that work is mostlyoccuring "from home" but there's not all that much to do around here in the cold.

[inertia] Had a marathon 11pm, 6 hour risk game the other day...

[inertia] heh

[Heidi] Would you consider yourself a computer geek?

[inertia] I don't think anyone who's been using a modem for 11 years is allowed to answer 'no' to that question.

[inertia] :P

[Heidi] So true. That's good because personally I think computer geeks are seksey. But that could just be me.

[inertia] Well, oh boy am I a geek then! ;)

[inertia] heh

[Heidi] Haha. Speaking of computers, what all are you experienced in?

[inertia] Well, I've been using computers for like.... 13-14 years now? (Good lord, has it been that long?!). It all started when my dad brought home a copy of Space Quest. It kinda went fromthere. Those Sierra *Quest games rocked. In grade nine a friend of mine told me what that "mo..dem.." was in my computer. Introduced me to the world of BBSing, which was what really got me interestedin computer.

[inertia] Until then I just installed all my games to C:\GAMES (not in subdirectories, RIGHT IN \games)

[Heidi] Oh, that's a good story!

[inertia] BBSing led me to programming. I taught myself QuickBasic...

[inertia] From there it just kinda "went"

[Heidi] I bet the people who will be reading this article will have done the exact same as you with the whole C:\GAMES deal. That makes me laugh.

[inertia] heh

[Heidi] Do you have any ideas on improving DMusic?

[inertia] I'm not sure. I've been trying my hardest to make the shoutbox seem nothing like a search engine, but it seems there's nothing I can do in that deptartment. I'd like to see way more music on the site (and I know thats in the works)... But I think the site's pretty good already.

[inertia] hmm... "deptartment"

[Heidi] I don't understand the whole shoutbox/searchbox phenomenon either. It's like a mystery that will always remain unsolved.

[inertia] No kidding.

[Heidi] Do you have anything you'd like to share with DMusic's visitors? This is your chance to spread your propaganda.

[inertia] Hmm... um...

[inertia] Candy

[inertia] Is Dandy

[inertia] But liquor

[inertia] Is Quicker

[Heidi] That was quite clever and is a good comment to finish our interview with. Thanks for your time.

[inertia] I have a confession...

[inertia] I stole that... from Ogden Nash.

[inertia] Anyways, heh, no problem Heidi. :)

***********************************

Those games f**cking rock! I LOVED The King's Quest series. I can still remember playing King's quest 2 and 3 on my cousins old Tandy. Those were the days...when you couldn't boot a puter without a 5.25 inch floppy with DOS loaded onto it :D (Big Grin)
