MP3 dot com is cranky about their former legal counsel, Cooley Godward LLP. In fact, MP3 dot com is mad enough to have recently filed a malpractice suit asking for hundreds of millions of dollars in damages and compensation.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, states that MP3 dot com launched its "My.MP3.com" service in January 2000 based on supposedly inaccurate and incomplete legal information from Cooley Godward LLP. My.MP3.com aka Beam-It, was a service that allowed users to access their home music libraries by simply using the Net. The idea was unpopular with major record labels from the beginning, creating many copyright lawsuits.
MP3 dot com's suit comes from the fact that their legal advisors at Cooley, believed the service didn't break any laws. This set forth MP3 dot com launching the My.MP3.com service which resulted in costly lawsuits. MP3 dot com is seeking several hundred million dollars for the loss and value of MP3 dot com, plus more than $175 for judgments, settlements and legal fees.

What a crock of shit. Newsflash: Vivendi/Universal now own mp3.com, it is *not* owned in any way shape or form by Michael Robertson or his investors anymore. The long and short of it is that Viv/Uni are now trying to grab a ton of money for legal misrepresentation that allowed these assholes to buy mp3.com in the first place.
This is like me suing you for selling my music, your lawyer sucks, you lose, I win, and I buy your business very cheaply. After I control your business, I sue *your* lawyer for failing to protect you from me.

Good article Miss. Heidi. I agree this lawsuit is pathetic coming from one of the companies that sued the original company out of existance so they could buy mp3.com cheaply. These large labels should be touted more as "Anything For For A Buck."

I think the real problem is they overpaid for mp3.com (372 million!) and are trying to make it back. Hell, Dmusic is better thjan mp3.com, right?

I think MP3.com has every right to be mad because they were misrepresented. they were not breaking any laws and the lawyers made them out to be breaking the law and made things worse
