UMG Opens Website for "Corrupt CD" Format Support
Posted by AdvancedBill Evans in on January 17, 2002 at 3:30 PM

Universal in it's continuing effort to back up it's decision to produce what they call "copy protected" cds has opened a website for support of those cds. As you know I usually refer to these cds as corrupt cds and Philipps recently stated these aren't CDs but silver disks with music on them. They are saying that retailers are authorized to take returns for the following reasons.:

Verbatium from the website

UMG has authorized all retailers to accept returns. If you have experienced any of the following problems, you may return the CD (even if the package is opened) accompanied by the receipt, to the retailer that the CD was originally purchased from for a full refund:

* The CD is not playing in your CD or DVD player.

* The CD is not playing in your computer.

* The audio has audible problems.

* The songs did not start and stop when the skip button was pushed.

* The fast forward and rewind functions did not work.

* You are not able to play all of the songs on the CD.

* There are long delays between the songs or after you press a button for a particular function (fast forward, rewind, etc.).

UMG is making every effort to eliminate these problems as soon as possible.

I love UMG they are my hero's they are protecting us all from pirates. I'd really hate if pirates took over philly and started to rape and pillage. Thank you UMG (even the name UMG sounds cool)

One question I have to ask is about the accounting on this. The artist is usually charged back for returns on their royalties/earnings (to help determine if they recoup or not). Now given how hard it is to get an accounting from the labels (ask Courtney Love) is this just another means to make sure the money stays at the label and not go to the artist? They can't be resold as new, so they will have to be destroyed or goiven away (resulting in another lost sale because the person that received it didn't have to buy one.)

I've still got my boycott going on. Still going by Milla's suggestion to just buy used discs and have saved a fortune on doing so. Copy protection no way. Perhaps the boycott is far reaching considering that the local Tower Records and Chain Store Camelot Music in this area have closed shop recently even had discounts up to 50% which still only attracted few people..perhaps ya think?

do these "corrupt music discs" have warning labels on them saying they are "corrupt music discs", cause i'd be pretty fuckin' pissed off if i accidently bought a copy protected cd. but something tells me they aren't using those for underground hardcore, so i might be safe...

Yeah Yianaki. Yeah it would be devistating if the music pirates were to take over philly and steal me cheesesteaks. AARGH they ain't getting me bloody treasure or me cheesesteaks or me music that easy. I know i'll use silver discs so i can only listen to music on old fashion cd players and not on the hi capacity harddrives of me mp3 player and PC... that'll fix them bloody pirates!! Err wait they can still get me cheesesteaks.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!! BLAST IT!!!!!!! new plan maties!
