Ana Popovic is the Serbian native gone rock and roll wonder woman. She has been dominating the guitar world with her passion for music and her fiery guitar style.
Unconditional is her third album to date, and was written and produced with Grammy Award Winner John Porter. Guest musicians on the album include Jon Cleary, David Torkanowski, Galvin Turner, Doug Belote, Sonny Landreth and John Ricci.
"Unconditional" swings full force into a hip swaying beat that seduces your ears without even trying. Popovic wails on the guitar and converts you over with her siren's voice. Growling and crooning her way through a song about remembering a love that used to be unconditional. The lament here is bitter sweet. You get the impression that there is still love there, but it has changed over the years into something a bit more complicated. There is a perfect balance between lyric and music that have instantly made me a fan of this incredible artist. This song has fire and snap and is the perfect title track for this stunning album.
"Soulful Dress" is a wild romp as Popovic gets ready for a night on the town. A seductive dress with a slit up the side, a short skirt that can slay at a thousand paces and a plunging neckline give us a picture of a temptress in action. She is indeed ready for battle. The rest of us had better watch our men and we had better dress for war, because she is coming. Wailing away on the guitar and belting out lyrics that scorch the ear, this song is a fine example of all that Popovic is capable of. She truly is a force of nature and a goddess of love with an electric guitar.
"Summer Rain" is a sultry explosion of visualization as Popovic sings about summer rain and curves' being revealed as a shower erupts overhead. The afternoon plans for a short lunch at the restaurant are extended as people settle in to watch the rain and get a refill on their drinks. The bustle of the afternoon really pops as Popovic's voice glosses over the scene. "Sweet, sweet, summer rain. You forget about your sorrow. You forget about your pain." The guitar blossoms into full force playing and you can get a snapshot picture of pelting rain on naked skin and people scurrying around, trying to get in out of the weather.
Popovic described her feeling about being on stage as her motivator to call this album Unconditional. She lets her soul pour out into her music and it really shows in this album. Her focus has shifting from what has been seen in earlier releases;
Unconditional brings Popovic headlong into the sweet flavor of the blues. Popovic surrounds herself with talent and every aspect of this album resonates with it.
