I would love to make money at music, but why is there a book out there about how to fit your music into America\'s idea of the perfect song? Why are our brains programmed like that? Why do we even like music? What purpose does it serve to humans? Is it the language of our ancestors? Will we need it in a couple years to speak with them again? Hmm. Interesting. Who's gonna figure it out first?
But where does it come from? Why do our brains respond to something which is entirely artificial? Musical perception seems to be distinct from language -- we have no "native" musical language, for instance. And our spoken languages, even tonal ones like Chinese, make use of only a small part of our ability to perceive tones and musical patterns. It's as if our brains are equipped to handle an extremely complex method of communication which we don't actually use.
Was there a time when language was more musical? Before language, did humans sing like whales or mice? Or did music help cement early tribal bonds, so that musical societies thrived while non-musical ones died out? Music doesn't fossilize, so we can't know if ancient humans used this ability or not.
Emerging evidence also indicates that music brings out predictable responses across cultures and among people of widely varying musical or cognitive abilities. Even newborn infants and people who cannot discern pitch enjoy musics emotional effect. Certainly music seems to be the most direct form of emotional communication. It really seems to be as important a part of human life and communication as language and gesture.

If half the article is missing then it wasn't added when you wrote it, simple really. I've never had a problem with the news section when I've bothered to submit anything, long or short. Yes the site's got bugs - so do most sites if you hadn't noticed - So why not resubmit the article and see if the same problem occurs, or were you just looking for a moan?

The picture is missing, there are bizarre symbols in my text and yes I was ranting to myself and no one else. Can this even be deleted?
