Russian singer/songwriter Regina Spektor was at the Electric Factory last night as part of her North American tour for her 2009 album, Far. Off of her new album she played the single, Laughing With, as well as Machine, Blue Lips, and Folding Chair, and Wallet.
She also played her older singles, Fidelity, Hotel Song, and On the Radio. Serious Regina Spektor fans were also really pleased to hear her more eccentric songs, Bobbing for Apples, and Poor Little Rich Boy, where she simultaneously sings, plays piano with one hand, and plays percussion with her other hand on a wooden chair.
Live, Regina Spektors just as impressive as on her albums, if not more so. She appears humble on stage, but with a lot of presence since she is up there alone for most of her songs.
Her stop in Philadelphia was a significant night for Regina Spektor, she forgot the lyrics to two of her songs, stopping to exclaim Congratulations! This is the biggest f*ck up Ive ever had touring in America! before she resumed singing right where she left off, after one of her fans reminded her of the lyrics. It was also Jack Dishels birthday, who beatboxes for Hotel Song, so, of course, the crowd had to break out into a chorus of Happy Birthday.
Opening for her was Jupiter One, a Brooklyn-based indie rock band. The lead singer of Jupiter One, K Ishibashi, plays the violin behind Spektor on songs like Fidelity.
Overall everyone was fabulous, especially Miss Spektor herself. It was a great concert with a great crowd, and everyone seemed to have a blast.
