New CD From Chris Nelson Set For September 17th
Posted by Rockcnelson in on September 6, 2009 at 7:26 PM

Chris Nelson, former guitarist and songwriter for Fishkill announced his solo effort "Nightfall" will be released on his label, Fishwhacked, on September 17th.

The CD is a slightly different sound from the unpolished garage-rock sound of Fishkill.

"I wanted something that didn't sound like Fishkill," he says. Looking at Pete Townshend's "Empty Glass" album, Nelson set out to make a record with a defining sound. Taking his time and carefully working through all of the instruments, he produced a 14-track disc with a wide range of styles from the typical rock sound to acoustic folk ballads.

"I've always had my own sound, but I simply adjusted aspects of that sound."

The solo record blends rock, folk, and blues together into a unique mixture of sound and the songs have a way of staying with you, long after the music stops playing.

The disc begins with the cheerful lament "Through That Door" whcih deals with the hard consequences of irreversible change. It also features a guest appearance from his daughter, Julie as an additional singer during the song' refrain.

The lonesome blues tune "Long Distance Love" is fraught with longing and forboding at having to leave a loved one for an indefinite amount of time.

"This is actually one of the oldest songs I've recorded" Nelson remarks. Originally titled "My True Love" this song was performed at a talent show on Holloman Air Force Base during the 1980's. Re-worked and re-named, this song is a staple in his live performances.

The first single, "Lost Again" showcases the melding of rock and folk with a strong acoustic presence and the electric guitar taking a back seat to the production. Originally performed live with Fishkill, this song has been reworked into more of a folk pop song.

The haunting acoustic ballad "Dark Times" is a lament about getting nowhere despite hard work and sacrifice. The lone guitar/vocal presence lends itself to the melancholy.

A few of the songs were featured on the Internet radio station Radio Get Wild on the Indie and Unsigned Show with DJ Dee in a broadcast last wednesday.

Tracks have already been uploaded on several online profiles while the CD is due out towards the end of September. The CD will be availble through CD Baby, who also carries the three Fishkill CDs. The new CD will be available for purchase from CD Baby and from his web site at www.chrisnelsonband.com.

Meanwhile, Nelson begins playing his acoustic shows in centeral Pennsylvania starting at the Aurora Cybercafe in Mechanicsburg on September 27th at 7:00 PM. Many of the new songs will be performed live.
