Hello?

Last time I was here, there was a new boss who didn't want to hear anything that resembled boycotting. But he was going to turn it into a "hot" site again.

*chirp*

There's still a lot to talk about, Sony v Tenenbaum, the RIAA lawyers in the Justice Dept., and the continuing series of lawsuits, which never really stopped.

I see Code has tried to fill the void, but... well, it's looking pretty sad here.

I don't know, been working on recordings for months. It was right when Shmoo was leaving.

I just wanted to see if anyone was watching the incoming submissions. I've got a couple of articles in my head that need to be written about.

Independents are rocking iTunes, Amazon and all the rest. For every major label release, we release 10 or more. I've added two this year (Hank Tomlin Band and Hurricane Alley) myself, with a third one on the way (four tracks done), so I'm doing my part.

I don't know how many of us are selling anything (I made $7.47 so far this year), but we certainly can't complain about market access any more, which was where I came into the whole RIAA squabble in the first place.

In that repect, their castle walls have fallen.

Well, here's something maybe someone could front page. Barry Diller says free web content is "a myth." Oh yeah??? LOL Well good luck with that, Barry. It was so successful for the NYTimes.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aZeenjkAYFIE

Barry Diller, chairman and chief executive officer of IAC/InterActiveCorp, said Web users will have to pay for what they watch and use, joining the refrain of media moguls who say an era of free Internet content is ending.

The media and technology executive, whose company runs the Ask.com search engine and the Match.com dating service, said it’s “mythology” to view the Internet as a system of free communications.

“It is not free, and is not going to be,” Diller said today at the Fortune Brainstorm conference in Pasadena, California.

As for indie music, I'm seeing more and more true indie artists (i.e. non-RIAA labels) show up on PBS shows like Austin City Limits and Soundstage. (Jackson Browne has broken the shackles of his RIAA slavery, and he just gave a great concert on Soundstage.) Also on the nightly shows like Letterman and Conan. Aimee Mann, Neko Case, etc.

So it isn't only iTunes where the barriers have fallen. Look, I don't know how you get into the pipeline to get booked on those shows. I'm sure it has a lot to do with who you know. But you don't have to be with a major label, for sure.

Meanwhile, about the only thing the majors have going for them are the Beatles remasters.

I sent in a good article a couple weeks ago and the only that appeared was something about Neil Peart. Maybe Geddy Lee is in charge.

"Meanwhile, about the only thing the majors have going for them are the Beatles remasters."

And Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

Leflaw -- I'll add it to my front page, like I did with the last note you sent.

mroop -- glad to see you're still around. seriously.

victor -- love the bat wings.

Well, I did send in an article on Michael Jacksons lost (stolen) nose...I kind of thought that was REALLY important, and kind of music related....

And by the way George, congrats on the making of $7.47. That's more than the Bay City Rollers ever saw.

Thanks, much appreciated. I've been learning how to be a normal human being. Soon they will let me out unattended on weekends. :) (Smile)

I still check by the site every couple days whenever I get a moment online, I just don't have the time to surf for news to submit or write about anymore.

But it is nice to see you folks above are also still also keeping an eye on the place from time to time.

I lurk a bit. The war is being won by the RIAA since they now run the DOJ. That's bigger guns than any of us will ever have. Owning the DOJ and some congressmen is a viable business strategy IMO.
