Underrated Sound Machine, Reloaded -- The History of Patrick Lews new band Your Audio 2 Riot
Internet musician and artist from the Bay Area, Patrick Lew and Co. has
been making music and promoting their unsigned rock band and music locally
and online for several years already. Having experienced the life of a musician
since age 15, Lews former projects has toured locally in San Francisco and
recorded in the studio a mass of 300 recordings of music since then.
Also, during their chase for fame and fortune in the music industry and Rock And
Roll, they had battled many good and bad experiences as local SF Bay Area
musicians in trying to get an opportunity in music and art. From criticisms from
bigoted music critics online, estranged romantic relationships, social alienation in
college and the Bay Area. Including, a revolving roster of band members in the
projects. In April 2008, Lew went solo as a musician/artist and rather than
continue his former band on his own. He tried something new and different with
his new band YOUR AUDIO 2 RIOT.
By the start of 2008, the fortunes and local fame that once had
associations with Lews music has changed or soured. Regarding the
dysfunction at the time the 23-year old rockers personal and professional life as
a local musician and artist, Lews dog passed away and was estranged from
various male and female friends from his social-networking profile on websites
such as Facebook and MySpace. Intending to take college seriously, because
feeling he would not go anywhere as a struggling local Bay Area musician, he
transferred to a California State University in CSU East Bay. And his family
moved to a new Antioch, California without him part-time. Lew decided, never to
give up his odyssey as a music artist, so he founded YOUR AUDIO 2 RIOT as a
way to make a resurgence with his music career and music. Or to simply, make
music in the studio due to his strong interest and passion for his artistic job.
Usually, Lew would check out a Guitar Center to find gear to reconstruct
his ambitions and ideas for his music. Gone were the songs paying tribute to
Japanese pop culture. The high school jam band wailing long guitar solos. And
gone were the musicians and experiences from his past. Rather than attempting
to recreate his early music and sound when recording new music and posting it
via Internet on www.patricklewsband.com to risk not being an obsolete 2000s
nostalgia rock project relegated to the Where are they now? files of culture and
Rock And Roll itself. Lew knew he didnt want to be rendered obsolete. He didnt
want to play his music live at shitty nightclubs and bars locally from his past, nor
fade from the musical limelight permanently locally, online or the music industry
as a whole. Lew decided to go back to basics as a musician and making music
and the rock band, how? Attempting to fuse his coming-of-age inspirations from
his iPod from Best Buy and childhood into his music, attempting to do a fusion of
Grunge and Hair Metal musically in his creation. So he browsed the Internet to
rediscover his favorite bands from his youth, or purchased the records at the
local record store. He began challenging himself, not to take his difficult past
experiences so seriously and write music in the studio, and present the
recordings on his websites to earn the appreciation it could deserve. He played
the guitar, sung, screamed and programmed the other sounds on software
Instruments on his computer as a one-man band for now. Now since he turns 24 in November of 2009 this year, and has experienced everything he could have
imagined in a decade of a music career and struggling local musician who
played in shitty bars and recreational centers, and massively promoted his music
on MySpace and everywhere else. Because of the experiences in his blogs and
stories written about him in the past, his music was now politically and socially
conscious in terms of the stories told in his songwriting and blogs. Lew spent
most of 2008 in his home recording studio he built with all the gear and rock star
tools of mass production from the musical instrument convention. Writing songs
with the intentions of fusing Hair Metal and Grunge with socially conscious
storytelling in the music. Posting the mp3 files from his computer laptop onto his
website. And taking college and higher education seriously at CSU East Bay.
It also meant, touring and live performing would be very limited because
of Lews musical and educational priorities with YOUR AUDIO 2 RIOT. After
the years chasing his opportunity in music and art, Lew still wants at least some
moderate success with his music but doesnt expect too much with his
Underrated Sound Machine. It became obvious that, Lew was not going to tour
anytime soon or get that maybe well-deserved opportunity in his music he
somewhat worked so hard for as an Internet musician. Its 2009 and most
naysayers think Lew is never going to tour again, get musical fame or
opportunity he hoped for or find TRUE LOVE or Soulmate in his love life. While
that is not true and cant be predicted in the future, it is certain that Lews mental
and psychological health has been banged up over the years in a CIRCUS
playing gigs with his former local bands locally or the hurtful rejections he faced
in college, music critics and. The headquarters of the music industry. Which
gave Lews new band the pseudonym and band name YOUR AUDIO 2 RIOT.
A dictionary band name that describes a young struggling musician/artist who is
pretty much a great talented person who tried hard to get the opportunity in
music, college life, romance and art. But was alienated from those who wouldnt
listen. Because of the years spent on constant promotion on music websites and
playing in a CIRCUS. And the blogging experiences as a unique 23-year old
Asian American musician and artist from the SF Bay Area who seems to be the
odd man out in college, romance and the music and arts industry itself. It is
an ANGRY young man rampage sent to rebelling against the conventions of
the Universe and bring social change for the Universe for all deviant musicians,
Rock bands, artists, writers and other people. Whether it be fantasy, online or
reality.
In February 2009, YOUR AUDIO 2 RIOT launched many music websites
on a variety of independent music community places via Internet. To coincide
with the release on iTunes of Patrick Lews solo album, Curb Your Wild Life.
He sung onstage at CSU East Bays college library for a special college event on
the 9th of that month, his first live musical performance in 17 months onstage.
Though a wanderer at his new institution, he blended in socially fast at Cal State
East Bay. Spending time with the Koinonia club (Lew is a Christian) and going
to big events with the Delta Chi and TKE fraternity at CSUEB. It is reported, Lew
Is back in the recording studio looking to hire session musicians to embellish the
demo recordings and scrapbook sketches of his new music. Lew was also
advertised on a few issues of Recording Magazine for promoting his music. It
Seems as if because of his seriousness and commitment to college and fix his
personal life, YOUR AUDIO 2 RIOT might be relegated to being an Art School
Band and Studio Band serious about the music without having to play a show
or do major events of promotion. Where in the old days, Lew would go out with
his former band and put flyers of their music website everywhere in retail stores,
restaurants and schools to get the word of mouth and play a show every now
and then. Nowadays with little support from the music industry and local Bay
Area music scene, Lew has determined to spread the gospel of his music and
art alone locally or online.
It was a good time after all. Will Lew ever that elusive opportunity in
music and art? Get the appreciation he deserves socially in school and the
Bay Area? Or find the love of his love? If the world and Universe is curious
and respectfully aware and supportive, the real Patrick Lews Band will come
to a resurgence everywhere.
