Last week I wrote an article on how Napster planned to block out files. Well... It has been done... Sort of.
Over the past week or so, you have probably noticed that when you search for something on Napster, fewer results come back -- or none at all.
Well, it looks like the crazy guys over at Napster did manage to get their filter up and working, but there still needs to be some tweaks made… For Example if you search for Madonna you will manage to get a grand total of 0 results. Yes, ZERO, Nada, Zip... Nothing! So Napster did manage to block songs… Well… sort of…
Try searching for Maddonna or Maddona, and you end up getting some hits... But sooner or later you wont. :( But if your one of those people really bad with names, and spell her name like Nadomma, and some other person on Napster is that crazy... You might just get a result. :P
So pretty much now, you wont be finding all the songs that you are looking for. But there always are alternatives…
Even if Napster filters out EVERYTHING but unsigned bands, the Napster alternatives will be alive and kicking. Napster may die out (heh, yeah right), but it started a ball rolling, and it will not be stopped!
One Last Thing... If you seach for Metallica, you will actually get hits!
Has anyone here searched for a common song and came up with no results?

I use to love napster, now they are just falling apart, so I don't even bother with them. They were cool, sad to see them dying out like this.

Napster is currently just a mere fragment of its former self. One can instantly surmise when the song they're searchin' for is one contained on the infamous "list," but I still say the filters affect songs and artists not on the list.

It's so hard sometimes to Name a song or artist especially with those complicated cdda services...give me a break. Just use opennap and be happy. Enough is enough with napster!!!!

There are so many great alternative out there, we just need to keep getting the word out. With great clients like WinMX, and the way they keep an updated list of quaility servers, there should be little to worry about when comes to finding music. People just need to start moving away from dependency on Napster.

One trick that will work is search by title of the song. I thought they blocked Joe ft. Mystikal with the song "Stutter", but somehow I'm able to get like 100 results. hmmmmmm?????

I've only been using Napster for hmmm about 4 months and I have seen the demise with me very own little eyes. Its only really any good for finding songs you know and I must prefer visiting sites that feature unknown/unsigned artists. Its more fun to find raging drum and bass by European artists with unpronouncable names than go looking for tunes you hear all day on the radio anyway. THEN you share yr files on Napster and then more people can share in the joy. Madonna is shite anyway.
Love to all xxxxxxxxxx

P2P is stoppable. Don't underestimate the music and film industries. They have much power and unlimited amounts of cash. If you think they're going to sit around and watch their means of living go out the window, you're dreaming. There is a way to stop P2P. IBM has formed an industry group to create encryption on hard drives. If the RIAA and filmmakers were to buy, err, persuade our federal representatives to enact legislation forcing all hard drive makers to use this encryption, they could easily stop P2P. IBM could not do this alone because Seagate, Maxtor, and the others would profit. No one would buy IBM's hard drives.
IBM would not be spending the effort developing this encryption scheme unless there were plans to introduce a bill forcing all drive makers to use encryption. It's the only way these encryption schemes can work. The only thing which can stop this is whether the Republicans have a philosophy of intervening on behalf of the Entertainment Industry. The Reps have never been close to them. The Industry has typically done its best to trash them. The Reps have always claimed a laissez faire philosophy (that means opposing governmental intervention), but since they helped the credit card industry, it seems hypocritical. The fact is, our federal reps are such whores, if you give them $100K, they would probably let you sleep with their wives (unless you're talking about Barney Frank, then you might not want to make the offer). Look at how Clinton got a $400K bribe from the Carlos Vignali family and then pardoned this 800 LB drug smuggler.
