MusicBlitz Artist Scores Grammy Nomination
Posted by AdminMike Darrah in on January 4, 2001 at 12:49 PM

Breaking ground by earning a Grammy Nomination with a album produced specifically for online distribution, MusicBlitz and Wailing Souls prove that the digital music industry is something which is seriously undervalued currently.

MusicBlitz has provided the reggae group Wailing Souls with assistance in the recording and production of latest album "Equality", which was recently awarded a Grammy Nomination. Along with marketing the music through the free digital distribution of the tracks on MusicBlitz.com, MusicBlitz also provides full length CD's for distribution in typical offline brick-and-mortar distribution.

This combination of digital distribution and promotion, along with providing existing retail channels with physical product to sell is something that has proved quite successful for Wailing Souls, along with several other major label artists working with MusicBlitz.

Upon release in July 2000, Wailing Souls' "Equality" debuted at No. 15 on the CMJ New World Chart, and went on to have the track "No Joyriude" featured in the hit television show "ER".

The success of the album follows two other Grammy nominations which the Wailing Souls have received. By teaming up with MusicBlitz, Wailing Souls have proven that a good band can reach success by harnessing the power of the Internet without directly charging for the download of their music. Instead, MusicBlitz assists in creating a profit for the band through broadcast and cable radio distribution, along with traditional brick-and-mortar sales.

"We set out to make MusicBlitz a different kind of music company with a fresh, artist-friendly approach to doing business. Wailing Souls were one of the first groups to partner with us and one of the first to agree to do a full-length album with us. We had very high hopes for this project and it is rewarding to see it succeed the way it has." stated Kevin Nakao, CEO of MusicBlitz.

free distribution of music does not result in lost profit. i hope everyone will hear about this story and that it'll change their thoughts on free music distribution.
