What should I buy next?
Posted by ElectronicSami Halinen in on December 20, 2000 at 12:26 PM

So I have a Yamaha CS2x and a computer with sequencer now and that's my all equipment at the moment. I would really like to expand my gear now and I need your help. Should it be another synth, or what? Tell me people!

Thanks!

Sampler. Save up around 8-900 and het a solid, workhorse sampler, The E-Mu ESI 2000, Akai S Series, etc. Will be great. I prefer the ESI. You can get one for around 600 (spend the other 2 on SIMMS - 64 MB is usually going to be more than enough) Hooked up to your sequencer, and any number of sound sources (your Yamaha, a cd player, etc.), you have an unlimited variety of sounds. Using a sampler is mind blowing. Hope it works out.

I concur. Life without a sampler simply isn't life. Pick one up immediately.
They're just great to have.

dont get a sampler - you can use the pc for that. instead get a yamaha rm1x - its the biz when it comes to making synth lines, drum loops, everything

Maybe a mixer and/or a midi-interface? It is easier to expand then, atleast i think so :) (Smile)

it really depends on what kind of music you want to make.. no rm1x or anything with the word groove in it.. esis are nice and affordable (got my 4000 for 400$.. the guy who said 8-900 is smoking crack.. you got ripped the fuck off man.. i just use my esi and some real analog synths (jp 6, k3) and thats all i need.. although another nord modular is definately in my future

I just read the other comments. Before you try something else out you really ought to give Reason from Propellerheads (www.propellerheads.se) a try. It's a software concept that has a demo version you can try for free. I know some people who have happily sold off their entire gear just to have it all inside your computer. You just might like it. And before you know it you just may be spending more money on your precious computer's hardware than you will be investing in music gear, ever.

Just give it a try - it won't hurt anyone but maybe the real makers of music equipment... And they can take it!! :) (Smile)
