The worlds largest independent music group, Zomba Recording Corp stated that it will be offering digital downloads for purchase through Liquid Audio, in a partnership with Amplified, Reciprocal Music.
Zomba, packing in such major name artists as NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Mystikal, and KRS-1 (among others) will initially sell the digital distribution model on a per download and per album basis, ranging from $1.99 - $3.99 per single to $14.98 - $16.98 per album.
Reciprocal Music and Amplified will distribute the Liquid Audio based music though out their various network sites, and work with Zomba on establishing a working digital rights management and online distribution partnership.
While many in the industry have stated that consumers will be unwilling to adapt to such methods of digital music acquisition, specifically on a pay per download basis, Zomba is aware that digital distribution of entertainment is a emerging market which will be growing rapidly in the future.
The agreement with Amplified and Reciprocal to distribute Zomba artists digitally is a sign that the company realizes this market, and is at least attempting to target it's content to this market in a profitable manner.
Would you be willing to purchase music on a per download basis (full album or singles) or would you prefer a subscription based service for the aquisition of digital music online? And will either of these methods of digital distribution be able to become profitable with the free P2P programs that are available to the masses now?
