Kid Rock's Copyright Crime

Kid Rock, via a sarcastic public service announcement located at YouTube, has encouraged everyone to steal eveything. Too bad he's so uneducated on Copyright Law that he doesn't know downloading music isn't stealing.

First of all, Kid Rock needs a copyright education. Downloading music for free is NOT STEALING. Our courts have already decided so. It is copyright infringement. A precedent calling such downloading as "unactionable" (meaning you can't be sued for it) has been set with the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992. It is different than stealing an iPod or ripping off the big oil companies by stealing gas. In fact, people aren't being sued by the RIAA for downloading music. They are being sued for distribution via peer-to-peer networks. The legality of such transactions has yet to be determined.

Kid Rock doesn't understand that Copyright Law was a provision "FOR LIMITED TIMES" in our constitution to promote creativity in the arts. Originally, copyrights were only for a 7 year term with one renewable option. Today, Congress, the Supreme Court, and Big Business has corrupted the concept of Copyright Law so much, that anyone creating anything artistic is supposed to be ENTITLED to earn a living from their work forever. With the bastardization of Copyright Term limits to 70 years after death, it is little wonder. Our founding forefathers of our constitution never intended for copyrights to essentially be permanent. I will never see most of the items copyrighted in my lifetime reach the public domain before I leave this world. As such, they have no limits.

In addition, Kid Rock comes off as nothing more than a shrill for his record label. Clearly, his sarcastic remarks have sided him with the RIAA, an organization that has sued 12-year-old girls, dead grandmas, disabled moms, and college students for merely listening to music. And in doing so, they have employed the nastiest and most outrageous methods of doing so, so much so that the RIAA's actions amount to nothing more than extortion. These people being sued aren't wealthy like Kid Rock claims to be. They can't afford to fight $300hr attorneys to prove their innocence in court.

Well, I have a solution for Kid Rock's ignorance. DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. In fact, don't even bother listening to anything Kid Rock has to say. Don't listen to him. Don't listen to his music, because deep down, if you aren't paying for it, he doesn't want you to listen to it. He's proven that he is ignorant. The point isn't whether or not he's already wealthy. The point is that copyright law is broken. The RIAA and record labels have broken copyright law themselves because of their GREED. And now, Kid Rock is playing right into that GREED.

Besides, until he can produce a rock album without foul language that doesn't refer to himself in every song, his art is quite lame in my book.

At least Kid Rock seem to authentically posses the ignorant and uneducated background he purports to in his lyrics.

Wow this is a bit intense...I'm a family guy too Distilled, but the issue for me is not the music nor his language..For me in all his intent to do what seems good for the kids musical freedom he's sending the wrong message when he says go steal Pc's,cars, fuel from the originators of the product he mentions...He apparently forgets those go to vendors who have the same right as him to make money of a product and who they them selfs have families...This is a free country but endorsing theft is dangerous and wrong at any level specially when people can get hurt I would say...Remember kids are kids and they believe many things that we grow out of as we get older,so be responsible in what you say it could have dire consequences I would also add....Again I have no issue with him and his music.
