Brown-eyed Girl Video removed from YouTube
Posted by DMemberCarolyn in on April 21, 2008 at 10:54 AM

I don't understand how they can let you share songs and download them from sites lie Limewire or ringtones and ringbacks for a cell phone, but they don't want a small town band putting a video of their own band singing a version of the song. They don't even do it exactly like Van Morrison. I have Brown-eyed girl as a ringback on my cell phone and I will remove it if they don't want it used or heard. I will also inform the band and they won't ever sing the song again. Seems to me if they are going to be releasing a new cd of Van Morrison they would want to get some free publicity for the song. I will not buy the new cd and I will make sure all of my friends on facebook and myspace and everywhere else boycott the new cd as well.

hmm...

Wait a minute, I might be confused.

Are you talking about MY band's version, or your own (or somebody else's)

???

lol

Well,

Regardless...

MY BAND'S version is available as a legal .mp3 download from DMusic

AND

DESPITE my anger over the DMCA takedown at YouTube,

I went ahead and paid for the rights to do a cover of that song on our soon to be released independently produced CD.

(But, you still probably won't be allowed to post even that legally licensed version that comes from OUR CD over on YouTube because the license rights I purchased only pertain to a physical audio copy format.)

WE (Electric Gypsy) give you permission, but Van Morrison/Exile (Universal/Polydor) will probably send YOU a damn DMCA take-down notice (and/or sue you!)

Evil bastards!

I have noticed that what Youtube keeps and what it removes for "copyright violation" is a real inconstant mess. I have seen AMVs and parodies pulled with in weeks while total copies of shows remain month after month after month.

Also Youtube has demonstrated total hypocrisy in this matter as related by JohnLArmstrong where one of his videos was used by someone without his permission (copyright violation) and he has requested its removal. Youtube has failed to honor his request despite JohnLArmstrong being the copyright holder.

Maximara, you have "good eyesight"

(George, help me with the links and stuff...)

But did I not warn folks about what was happening when Google bought YouTube and signed deals with the RIAA and other big media on virtually the same damn day?

I was ready to call for a BOYCOTT on GooTube then, but held back because so many REAL people/users were using it.

(MP3.com was "the shit" once too! But look what happened!)

I am sick and tired of being SOLD OUT!

did anything ever come of your plight Mike?

and on a note about you tube they have been hosting FULL length (in 6 parts) MOVIES from 2008 since 2007!

yep I watched Will Smith in I am Legend on you tube :o (Eeek!) in my defence I now have 2 I-Max ticket stubs after paying 17$USD to see it in I max as I liked it that much! ...
but thats a crock,

I am still waiting for the DMCA take down of my cover of Wish you were here by Pink Floyd, if you ask me a Much bigger, better song and don't get it.

Maybe you all are doing such a better Job than Van did with it they are afraid???

boycott all the RIAA stuff! its the only way! they dont get it ... not at all.

George what was the link to the article you wrote calling for us to record and give our covers of songs for free, I still say we MUST keep it up and if it comes to the laws making us pay to give away our interpretation of music we love I guess the artist/publishers will loose out even more as we will all stop doing them! or maybe then its time to buy the distribution rights for digital sales (I know CD baby or cd (something) offers this) and out sell them!!!!
