Band of Asians ON HIATUS - Inside Story
Posted by AlternativePatrick in on March 11, 2008 at 9:39 PM

Audio 2 Riot. Internet musician and the Bay Area independent music community's OWN Patrick Lew's new Solo Musician project and Alternative to CREATING music in Band of Asians.

He is an Internet musician who's been playing musical instruments in local bands in the San Francisco independent/internet music community since he was 14 in 2000. Having gotten his first guitar kit at a music store and taken some Elementary Guitar Workshops at the small Chinese music school called Vibo Music Center. He is the Taiwanese-American musician named Patrick Lew. Born on November 15, 1985. A life-long hobbyist of musicology and musical instruments. He grew up on Alternative Rock, Punk and Metal music in his youth after his pre-Kindergarden years growing up on the MUSIC of The Beatles and collecting anything Beatlemania (Magazines, CDs, Books and Videos). He played in 3 or 4 local bands in the SF Bay Area music community such as Silent Minister, The Original Tapeworms and of course! Band of Asians. He also worked odd jobs at Tower Records, GameStop and a comic book store as a teenager.

From his musical resume DEBUT in 2000 as Internet musician, he has published his musical work from his musical projects/groups on the Internet through his computer on independent music community webpages such as Dmusic.com, SoundClick.com, MP3.com and the now defunct Lycos Music Listeningroom. As a teenager, he went to many live musical events such as Warped Tour and Ozzfest music festivals. He even met the famous SoCal pop/punk band Blink 182 during an autograph session which fans can meet the band and its 3 talented musicians at Tower Records. He also convinced former Blink 182 bassist and +44 band member Mark Hoppus to NOT only get all 3 band members to autograph his Blink 182 CD he purchased at the record store but! Convinced Mark to purchase Patrick a Beatles "Let It Be" CD at the music store!

Most of Internet musician Patrick Lew's fame in the Internet musicians community came from Band of Asians. It was 2005, and Patrick had musical experience playing Rhythm Guitar in such high school band of local musicians with Silent Minister. Since 2000 and 2001, Silent Minister had played some live musical events locally and published their music on the Internet through INDIE music pages earning the teenage School of Rock musicians a Music Licensing/Publishing contract with a small music publishing company called Statue Records. They played "Battle of the Bands" twice for a music tournament/contest to WIN a Grand Prize of $25,000, NEW musical gear and FREE TIME at a local recording studio to CREATE music to send their demos to the music industry but lost. They were fed up with local touring as Internet musicians to play a CIRCUS, and along with an ever-changing roster of Internet musicians playing their musical instruments in the band. Adding insult to injury with Patrick's personal hardships with FAME and a shambolic LOVE LIFE. The high school band Silent Minister soon was left in the School Yearbook as Patrick was NOW in college getting a college education at both City College SF and Skyline College (both ARE community colleges) and by the end of 2005. Patrick met Filipino Drum N' Bass DJ and electronic musician, Dave Arceo. Along with long-time community college friend and also electronic musician, a Keyboardist named Zack Huang. They founded Band of Asians.

From 2006 to 2008, Band of Asians CREATED masterpiece music in their occupations and musical history book as Internet musicians. Band of Asians can be seen as Patrick Lew's Alternative solo musician project to playing a musical instrument in a local band of musicians. With the help of GOOD friends from community college in the recording studio and live musical events locally. The Band of Asians published 95% of their MUSIC on the Internet through independent music community webpages on their computer. Along with ambitious MUSIC MAKING TOOLS such as Electronics, Computer Software and a variety of Recording and Electronic Musician magazines from Guitar Center. Band of Asians has CREATED four studio albums within 3 years as Internet Electronic Musicians and published them on indepedent music websites for the unsigned and independent musician, DJ or local band. 2007 saw Band of Asians play a variety of shows at City College and Patrick Lew played his biggest live musical performance at Golden Gate Park for the PromiseLand Church's "Summer of Love" music festival on August 11, 2007! Although Band of Asians was more of a STUDIO BAND than a LIVE BAND, they shopped for the latest musical equipment at music stores and picked up a COPY of Propellerhead Reason 4 to CREATE new music.

However, troubles plagued Band of Asians as each Internet musician in the Band of Asians began extracurricular musical activities outside the group of Internet musicians who grew up together from High School to College. Dave was creating Drum N' Bass music as DJ Axe Murder in the local Electronic Music Community in the SF Bay Area. Zack was content to FINISH COLLEGE at City College to attend UC Santa Barbara for Grad/Professional School to pursue a Film/Cinema career. Eddie and Shawn were playing in their local Funk Metal band SoundEater. And Patrick was doing the same. Finishing up community college at City College SF to earn his AA college degree at City College for CSU College Transfer after successfully finishing all his college education to attend a CSU college/university for Grad School at either SF State University, CSU East Bay or San Jose State University.

Since then, Patrick turned his attention to his NEW solo musician project CREATING thrash/punk music in Audio 2 Riot in February 2008. With a new home recording studio constructed with him and Zack using all the musical equipment purchased from the Computer and Music Stores. Patrick began CREATING music playing a musical instrument and singing onto a PortaStudio or Walgreens Store tape recorder. After the excess of CREATING complex music in Band of Asians, Patrick decided to create music in Audio 2 Riot which was "BACK TO BASICS" and stripped down from the Electronics, Synthesizers, Computer Music Software and excessive hints from Recording, Future Music and Electronic Musician magazines.
Audio 2 Riot is Taiwanese internet musician Patrick Lew's Alternative to Band of Asians' music. Right now, you're reading Audio 2 Riot's NEW music page and research biography. It's a musical project and extracurricular activity for Patrick in music to CREATE music with other musicians who go to his college at SF State University as Patrick's given up on finding local musicians at his soon-to-be former community college at City College SF. Audio Riot will consist of 3 band members if Patrick finds the musicians at his CSU college after obtaining his CSU Transfer AA college degree at City College and going to Grad School to focus on his career occupation in music. You could say Audio Riot is a Band of Asians musical offshoot or a RELATED musical project to Band of Asians. Without the Electronics from the Electronic Music Studio.

Patrick explains how he classified his solo project the bandname Audio 2 Riot, "Audio Riot, the bandname came from the musicians' interest/hobby for music (Audio) and playing music as local musicians in a Rock Band to relieve personal hardships such as College, Work, Love & Romance and Etc (Riot). Because playing music makes the musicians and music community happy and liberated." -- Patrick Lew

His intentions during the Band of Asians hiatus for Audio 2 Riot should be, "I played a variety of live music events locally with Band of Asians and his high school band Silent Minister. Since becoming a local musician at age 14 in 2000 and getting my musical education at guitar school. But once I get sidemen musicians for Audio Riot, jamming in the home recording studio comes first. Publishing the demo tapes of music I made at home on the Internet through indie music community pages like ANYWHERE come second. And third, DIY this new band Audio Riot locally by sending out flyers at Amoeba Records, Haight Street and other COOL places for music so we can play a show."

Although the future of Band of Asians REMAINS uncertain at this time, Patrick said he always wanted to CREATE complex and ambitious music in Band of Asians but due to lack of ideas where to take Band of Asians future projects in MUSIC other than journals and musical interview surveys, He won't RULE OUT to possibly record a NEW Band of Asians studio album. But needs the budget, studio musicians, musical equipment and technology to do so. In an interview with Patrick on his music page, he says he probably won't record a NEW Band of Asians studio album because he feels the musical project is lacking musical scrapbook of sketches to CREATE good music. He doesn't have ALL the musical equipment from Guitar Center and Best Buy in his home recording studio and MONEY to record a studio album that can match the EPICS of "Revenge" or "Buy Product" albums of Band of Asians music. He also thinks Dave, Cory and the rest of the ALUMNI MUSICIANS from Band of Asians will unlikely work or collaborate in the recording studio or at Band in the Box Studios (Patrick Lew's home workshop) to record a new album or music with Band of Asians. But he is considering recording it once City College, his community college, OPENS a new music department and workshop around 2011 which has a recording studio and all the MUSIC the college and music school department can buy.

Who knows what's in store for Band of Asians' musical history in the future! But it seems like Patrick Lew currently wants to do music in Audio 2 Riot currently for the time being.
