Patrick Lew explains his Music.
Posted by AlternativePatrick in on January 22, 2008 at 2:06 AM

Well. I've been playing music in many local bands since I was learning the electric guitar at music school at age 15. Purchased a couple musical instruments along the way. I been in at least 3 or 4 local garage bands playing music in my band member's house or in front of an audience in small shows at school or clubs. I did classical music on piano and violin before going GRUNGE. Now, I been pursuing this hobby of mines in Band of Asians because I simply well. Love playing and making music and showing the world my music. LOL. =D

Nothing special really. I go to school at City College of San Francisco and I been playing guitar in a few local bands in the SF music scene. Been making music since I was 15 using a REAL musical instrument or a computer. Never got the girl. What can I say? All I can say is I've begun Electronic Music Lab when I first purchased an OLD copy of eJay at a pawnshop for $2 when I was about 18, and I enjoyed the whole IDEA of Electronic Music when I was playing with this computer software. About 3 years later, I've gotten REASON 3.0 and FL Studio 6 at the music store which was great for making electronic-rock music. I didn't really care if it made every sound of the computer instruments TOO "digital" it sounded great to me!

Long story but let me explain why I started making music in a paragraph or so. I'm not going to WRITE a research resource book from the library/bookstore or music encyclopedias telling you the storybook history of my (DJ Audio Rage) career in music in the local San Francisco independent music community and as an Internet musician publishing my music on a variety of indie music websites for the independent recording musicians and local bands of great musicians like PureVolume.com and SoundClick. Hell! Even Electronic Musicians being a DJ on the turntable at a music CLUB playing Electronic Music. I'm going to keep it short and simple.

I first started out playing violin at age 7 in a music school and played in a few school recitals for classical music. I can be heard on a VERY RARE school recording for Chinatown Music School on CD or TAPE that I don't even have in my record collection of music I purchased on CD at Amoeba Music or Rasputin Records. Not EVEN Green Apple Books & Music! But I know it exists somewhere where I played violin at age 7 of me in a Chinese music school orchestra doing classical music.

Switched over to piano at the Sunset Music Center locally when I was 10. The first musical instrument my parents purchased me was a Casio MIDI Keyboards from Costco. But I was into music since I was practically a baby so I wanted to get an electric guitar at a music store or Guitar Center because I always wanted to play guitar in a band since I got into Metal/Rock music back in 1992. I know I was only 6 at the time. I first got hooked onto my hobbies of MUSIC when my Aunt Wynette and mother put on Beatles records on the turntable. We didn't upgrade from tapes and vinyl records to compact disc in the audio recording devices until I was about 11 when we got a CD player at Costco or Best Buy. I currently OWN 1,000 CDs of music I purchased from Amoeba Music or any other used record store. Or I purchase Maxwell CDR boxes at Costco or Walgreens and copy audio/music CDs of music I downloaded on the Internet through the Black Market such as PirateBay.org and local music community for indie musicians like SoundClick.com when I read any particular music artist's music page and downloaded mp3 files off their website.

I first got a guitar when I was 13 or 14 at Haight-Ashbury Music Center, and learned a couple things by myself through the Internet guitar lessons on several online musical instrument lesson websites (Ultimate-Guitar.com) but eventually had guitar lessons at a music store called Vibo Music Center I live close to in my neighborhood in San Francisco. I played in a couple short-lived Garage Bands as a teenager before I took up more music school education in college or at the Vibo Music Center where I got guitar lessons at. Such lessons I took at that music school was Rock Band 101, Electronic Music and etc.

I eventually learned how to play many musical instruments on my own and learned how to record music in a home studio environment by the time I turned 19. I purchased and got into reading recording musician magazines and Electronic Music books as a HOBBY to get more tips and hints on recording my music on tape from a 4-track Fostex PortaStudio I got from eBay.com or simply, buying computer music software from Best Buy or Guitar Center to create good yet unconventional music. I began my music career as a solo musician in 2005 with the concept of playing music as a COMPUTER Garage Band as a musical side project and Alternative to playing an instrument in a local band.

I haven't been in a band since Power Trip with my schoolmates from City College of SF earlier this year (which we recorded a demo at the Bank Studios) but to my convenience, I been playing music as a solo group since 2005 because it's FUN to express my creative side. I LOVE making music. Music is my interest/hobby/passion.

That explains my story in music sort of. I grew up on Beatles and Rock/Metal music but NOW I love all kinds of music. Because of music lessons and classes I took in the music department at City College!

It doesn't matter if it came from the number of bands you played in or your own solo group where you make music by yourself. So feel free to say how many tracks you recorded since you started playing music or making music in your lifetime.

I been making music since 2000 when I was only 14, I guess I am sort of a young guy at the moment doing music. I first recorded tracks for myself, some acoustic stuff I did on a Walgreens tape recorder and I made my first Garage Band demo solo around that same time. I played in at least 3 or 4 garage bands as of 2008, but only recorded with 2 of those bands I played in.

My high school band recorded about 25 songs, but I don't remember exactly how much music we actually recorded and put on tape but it was around 20 to 30. Most of them were taken from some live performances, jam sessions we did at my house and my solo stuff combined.

I recorded 6 songs with my most recent project, Power Trip, a band I played guitar in with my college friends.

And for my solo group Band of Asians/DJ Audio Rage, I probably thrown in at least a good number of 60 to 75 tracks caught on tape.

I don't remember the approx. number estimated of how much music I recorded because I don't keep track but I been doing music A LOT since I first started honestly, so I'd say I recorded about 120 tracks or maybe a bit more. Not all of them are good but oh well.

Long story but true. ^_^
